2023 Formula 3 Lineup: Hugh Barter to Campos

Campos Racing has announced its second driver of the 2023 Formula 3 season as Australian-Japanese driver Hugh Barter makes his debut.

Seventeen-year-old driver Hugh Barter has announced he will be racing for Campos Racing during the 2023 Formula 3 season. This will be Barter’s first season in the championship where he will partner with fellow rookie Christian Mansell. Barter is the 21st driver to be announced for the season.

2022 season

Barter made his single-seater debut in 2021 in the French F4 Championship after winning the Victoria Kart Championship. In 2020 he raced again in the Victoria Kart championship before it was abandoned due to Covid-19 after one round. Barter finished the French F4 Championship in second after taking two wins and eight podiums – losing by 23 points to Esteban Masson.

In 2022, Barter retained his seat in the F4 Championship and once again finished second after taking 10 wins and podiums, losing by 59 points.

Later on in the year, Barter joined Campos where he represented them in the Spanish F4 championship and, once again, finished second behind Nikola Tsolov by 113 points. In September, he participated in the Formula 3 post-season test alongside Mansell.

Despite 2023 being only his third season in single-seaters, it’s clear from his previous records that he is capable of success. Racing alongside his Spanish F4 rival Tsolov, can Barter come out on top this time?

Following the announcement, Barter stated:

I’m very happy to announce that I’ll be doing F3 with Campos Racing this year. It’ll be good to keep the relationship going after a strong season with them in Formula 4 so I look forward to it. I would also like to thank my main sponsor Platinum High Integrity Technologies Limited because without them it would not be possible.”

Adrian Campos (Team Principal at Campos) added:

“We are proud to continue working with Hugh (Barter) after a 2022 season with plenty of success. The Formula 3 championship is yet a more difficult challenge but we feel confident as he is a very talented driver with excellent skills. We really hope he will be able to quickly learn with our support and experience in order to end the season fighting for top results.”
