Trident Racing has announced its full lineup for the 2023 Formula 2 season as Czech driver Roman Stanek makes his debut.

Eighteen-year-old Czech driver Roman Stanek has been confirmed as the second and final driver for Trident in the 2023 Formula 2 season. Stanek will be racing alongside Clement Novalak. He is the 15th driver to be announced for the upcoming season.

Three seasons in Formula 3

Stanek made his Formula 3 debut in 2020 with Charouz Racing System after finishing fourth in the 2019 Italian F4 Championship. During the season, Stanek struggled immensely and finished 21st in the standings with three points. The following year he switched to Hitech Grand Prix and improved his performance by securing two podiums at the Hungarian and Belgian Grand Prix. He finished the season in 16th with 29 points.

In 2022, Stanek switched teams again and joined Trident alongside Zane Maloney and Jonny Edgar.  Stanek improved his results drastically as he took one win and four podiums to finish fifth in the standings with 117 points. Despite there being rumors that Stanek would be unable to participate next season if he finished below third in the Formula 3 standings, in November, Stanek participated in the 2022 Formula 2 post-season alongside Novalak.

Following the announcement, Stanek stated:

“I’m very thrilled to be working with Trident again this year. I’m already at work with the team and Giacomo, who is a great mentor to me, to achieve our goals together. This is going to be a year full of challenges and I’m ready for it.”

Giacomo Ricci (Team Manager of Trident) added:

“I think that moving up within the same organization is an important added value in terms of continuity. He knows the team very well, and we will be able to support him in the best possible way. Staněk had a remarkable 2022 season in the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Trident Motorsport, and I think there are all the components that are needed to perform at a high level this year as well.”

2023 Driver Lineup

Trident finished the 2022 Formula 2 season ninth in the standings. However, in Formula 3 they finished the season in second, showcasing they are a team capable of success. Stanek has proven he is a strong driver when he’s given the right car teaming up with the experienced Novalak can the team work themselves up the Team Standings?
