Dutch driver Richard Verschoor has announced he will be moving to Vans Amersfoort Racing for the 2023 Formula 2 championship.

The twenty-two-year-old Formula 2 driver Richard Verschoor has announced he will be moving from Trident to Vans Amersfoort Racing (VAR) for his third season in the series. Verschoor is the 13th driver to be announced and the first for the team. In 2016, Verschoor joined the Red Bull Junior Team but left after only a year due to ‘added pressure’.

Verschoor’s F2 Journey

Verschoor made his Formula 2 debut in 2021 for MP Motorsport after finishing ninth in Formula 3 the year before. He found success with the team claiming a win and a podium. However, during the penultimate and final rounds of the season, he had to switch to Charouz Racing due to budgetary issues. He replaced Enzo Fittipaldi who suffered an injury following a collision at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Verschoor finished 11th in the standings despite scoring no points during his time at Charouz.

In 2022, Verschoor joined Trident for the full season. Although he finished twelfth in the standings he was able to improve his consistency taking one win and four podiums. Following the season finale in Abu Dhabi, Verschoor, Juan Manuel Correa and Rafael Villagomez each participated in the Formula 2 post-season test for VAR.

Following the announcement, Verschoor stated:

“I am extremely excited to return to the F2 grid again in 2023 and I am really happy to do so with Van Amersfoort Racing. It is special to be able to announce this on my 22nd birthday as well! As both myself and VAR have grown a lot during last year in F2, I feel very confident about the upcoming season.”

Rob Niessink (CEO of VAR) added:

“Of course, it is special to have a talented, Dutch driver like Richard as a part of our 2023 F2 line-up. It might be needless to say that we, as a Dutch team, enjoy very much the opportunity of having a countryman as part of our driver line-up, especially at this high level of racing. Last year we went on a huge learning streak, which for sure will continue into the new season.”
