Formula 2 and Formula 3 CEO, Bruno Michel, has announced that PHM Racing will be joining the series ahead of the 2023 season.
German team PHM Racing will be taking over operations from Charouz Racing starting next year, following a year of financial struggles for Charouz. The new team will be identified as PHM Racing by Charouz for both the Formula 2 and Formula 3 series.
What is PHM Racing?
The team was founded in 2021 by German Paul H. Müller and spent the 2022 season racing in various Formula 4 championships: UAE F4, ADAC F4, and Italian F4. The team found instant success in all three series. PHM finished second in the ADAC F4 Championship, with Taylor Barnard picking up five wins, three poles, and coming in second in the title race. The team finished third in the UAE and Italian series, with Nikita Bedrin and Taylor Barnard securing wins in the F4 UAE Championship.
After an impressive start in the F4 Championships, the Berlin-based team turned toward new ventures. With Charouz’s financial troubles, they saw the opportunity to quickly move in the F2 and F3 series.

Charouz found itself in financial trouble during much of the 2022 season, needing seven drivers to represent them throughout the year. This new partnership allows both parties to carry forward and keeps the F2 & F3 grids set.
Bruno Michel (CEO of Formula 2 & 3) stated:
“I would like to welcome to PHM Racing to Formula 2 and Formula 3. Although they are a young team, they are eager to prove they have what it takes to embrace the challenges of our championships.”
Paul H. Müller (Owner of PHM Racing) added:
“Joining Formula 3 and Formula 2 is the next step in our evolution as a comprehensive development program for young driver talents. We are excited to offer drivers a team that can take them from karting all the way to the doorstep of Formula One.”
Despite the team being young, they are clearly capable of success as evidenced by their performances in the F4 Championships. How will PHM Racing fare alongside more experienced teams with better set-ups and knowledge of the tracks? Will they bring in some of their talented F4 drivers onto the F3 grid?
The team will be making their Formula 2 & 3 debut in February during the pre-testing in Bahrain ahead of the season opener in March.
