This Sunday, four drivers from the Toyota stable will look to take home the manufacturer’s fifth title in the Busch Clash at Daytona International Speedway as the race kicks off Speedweeks.
Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr., Denny Hamlin, and Erik Jones, all from Joe Gibbs Racing, will take on 14 other drivers in the exhibition.
NASCAR: Toyota hopes to cash in at the Busch Clash
Daniel Suarez and Daniel Hemric, who were also eligible, chose not to participate, Suarez, to focus on the Daytona 500 and Hemric because he will be racing in the Xfinity Series.
Toyota first earned spots in the field in 2008 when Dave Blaney and Michael Waltrip had pole wins the previous season, the manufacturer’s first in NASCAR.
Busch has one win that came in 2012, the first for Toyota. Hamlin will be looking for his third, grabbing wins in 2014 and 2016. Matt Kenseth has the other victory, which came in 2015.
To be eligible for the 42nd Annual Busch Clash, drivers have to fit into at least one of the following:
- Having won a pole position in 2019
- A previous Busch Class winner who were full-time drivers in 2019
- Former winners of the Daytona 500 who were full-time drivers in 2019
- Former pole winners of the Daytona 500 who were full-time drivers in 2019
- Drivers who qualified for the 2019 NASCAR Cup Series playoffs
The race will consist of three segments of 30, 25, and 20 laps. The total distance is 187.5 miles.
The field will take the green flag on Sunday at 3:00 p.m., weather permitting. You can catch all the action on Fox Sports 1.
