The World of Outlaws Late Model Season got off to it’s earliest calendar-year start in tour history on Friday with Chris Madden pacing the Battle At The Border field at Vado Speedway Park in New Mexico.
After an early battle with 2019 World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year Ricky Weiss, Madden was able to pull away and distance himself from the pack, weaving through lapped cars and winning the 30-lap season opener.

Weiss would drift backwards and battle with 2019 Outlaws champion Brandon Sheppard, before falling to third.
Weiss would fall back to fifth place later in the race, but salvaged a third-place finish right in front of teammate Scott Bloomquist.
It completed the night with each Scott Bloomquist Racing car finishing in the top four.
Sheppard got by Weiss after a long battle with the No. 7, but was ultimately too far behind Madden to challenge for the lead before the end of the race.
Mike Marlar rounded out the top five and challenged Bloomquist for a majority of the race, but couldn’t complete the pass.
Madden will start off the year at the top of the World of Outlaws Late Model Series standings, as he tries to continue his hot streak and win his first ever tour championship.
The series will continue with it’s second and third races of the season over the next two days at Vado. Sunday’s Battle at the Border Finale will pay out $15,000 while Nights 1 and 2 paid $5,000-to-win.
After the next two days in Vado, they will be off for over a month leading up to the DIRTCar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park in February.
We will continue to have live updates of each and every World of Outlaws race on Twitter at the Racing Vault.
