GMS Racing announced the signing of their fourth full-time truck series driver in Zane Smith as well as crew chief Kevin Manion, Tuesday afternoon, in a press release.

The pair will get together to pilot a fifth truck for the team during the 2020 NASCAR Gander Outdoors & RV Truck Series season.

On top of Smith in their fifth truck, GMS will see Brett Moffitt and Sheldon Creed return to the No. 24 and No. 2 teams, respectively, as well as Tyler Ankrum piloting the No. 21 full-time.

The remaining No. 23 truck will be driven part time by 2019 K&N East Series champion Sam Mayer as well as World of Outlaws star David Gravel.

“When I got the offer from Mike Beam asking me to run a truck full-time for GMS Racing, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity,” Smith said in the release. “GMS is a Championship caliber team and to be a part of an organization like theirs is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I’m looking forward to working with Manion again. He has a lot of experience and I know we will be a great team.”

The pair worked together during Smith’s lone truck series start in 2018, when Smith drove DGR-Crosley’s No. 54 truck to a fifth-place finish.

The 20-year old had some experience in victory lane as well that season, winning four ARCA Menards Series races in 2018 with MDM Motorsports.

During 2019, Smith ran a partial schedule as one of the rotating drivers in JR Motorsports’ No. 8 entry.

He competed in 10 races with the team and collected fifth-place finishes at Iowa Speedway and ISM Raceway.

GMS has not yet announced a sponsor or number for Smith, but did confirm that he will be competing for Rookie of the Year.

The 2020, 23-race truck series schedule will kick off on Friday, February 14 with a 250-mile race at Daytona.
