This weekend Alonso went behind the wheel of the United Autosport Ligier LMP2, and was able to give it a spin on the Daytona Road Course. On Friday, Alonso pointed out that he only did a few laps in the car, but said that he was starting to get “a feeling in the car and on the Speedway as well”.
Alonso was fascinated by the formation of the circuit. He mentioned this saying the “normal part” of the circuit makes it so that “you have a view in the car that is a little bit longer ahead”. Alonso also made note that when on the banking you can see “200 metres of the track and only that”.
Ahead of the testing weekend Alonso expressed lots of excitement and enthusiasm to participate in this race. Fernando Alonso said that he was going out of his comfort zone to be in this race. He claims that challenging himself outside of F1 is “what you need to become a better driver”. Alonso has felt good hospitality from his LMP2 team, mentioning that he has felt “extremely welcome and a part of the family”
