Ahead of the start of the 2017 MotoGP Season, Dhruv George looks at the lineup of Moto 3’s Marinelli Rivacold Snipers Team.
The Team
The Italian team had a very topsy-turvy 2016 season with decent finishes by Niccolo Antonelli, while Jules Danilo always hung around the point scoring positions. The problem was that Antonelli was highly inconsistent, because he won the opening race in Qatar, the rest of the season saw him seesaw up and down the order. Now, Antonelli has joined the Red Bull KTM Ajo and Romano Fenati has filled up the vacant Marinelli Rivacold Snipers Team seat.
The Riders
Romano Fenati had also been recovering from a forgettable 2016 season that saw him sacked by the VR46 team for behavioral issues. It is believed that he disrespected his crew members to the point of being violent. So the Team Sky’s star rider was forced into the sidelines for the remainder of the season. The Marinelli Rivacold Snipers Team will serve as a fresh start for the young Italian and they will also benefit from having a fast and experienced rider.
The 21-year-old Italian born Frenchman Jules Danilo also hasn’t produced any spectacular results but has finished in the points on several occasions in 2016 with his highest finish being sixth place at Assen. This was enough for him to secure his seat at Marinelli Rivacold Snipers. Danilo finished the 2016 season with a career best 20th place in the championship standings.
