Ken Roczen showed up to Supercross media day this week as the only rider dressed in a suit.
He said he wanted everyone to take it more seriously. Supercross is a business after all.
Roczen took to Anaheim and took care of it, his business that is. He dominated the race, beating reigning champion Ryan Dungey and company by 11 seconds.
On a Business Trip: Ken Roczen takes Anaheim
The win was Roczen’s first with Honda HRC, after he switched rides ahead of the 2016 Monster Energy Cup. Counting the three main events of the Monster Energy Cup, Roczen has won five of the past seven AMA Supercross races.
Behind Roczen, Dungey took his record 32nd podium in a row, while his teammate Marvin Musquin finished third. Jason Anderson, who trained with the two in the offseason, finished fourth.
Eli Tomac was riding in second after two laps had been completed, but he was motioned back all the way to fifth by the end of the event.
In other notables, Cooper Webb finished tenth in his first 450SX race. After a battle with Weston Peick, Chad Reed retired from the race and finished 20th. Also, Trey Canard crashed in practice, raced all the way to the main through the LCQ, but then didn’t start the main, finishing 22nd.
250SX: Mcelrath earns first ever win
Shane Mcelrath was able to hold off a challenging Aaron Plessinger to get his first ever 250SX win on Saturday. Plessinger challenged Mcelrath but never came within 1.5 seconds of passing for the win.
One of the favorites to win the 250SX West Championship this season was Kawasaki rider Austin Forkner. In his debut race, he found himself head-over-bars early, but was able to battle back to finish eighth.
Both series will continue their seasons next week as the series heads to San Diego. The event will start at 10:00 p.m. ET and will be televised by Fox Sports 1.
