Game 7 Draws Monster Numbers On Television

Game 7 Draws Monster Numbers On Television

The high drama of Game 7 of the World Series proved to be good news for Fox in the ratings.

According to the network, Saturday’s winner-take-all contest between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays averaged nearly 26 million viewers according to Nielsen’s panel-only fast national ratings survey.  That number is only expected to go up when the full national ratings survey, which also includes smart TV’s and set top boxes that allow streaming, come out on Tuesday.

Over 31 Million Viewers Watched Game 7 At Its Peak

Most viewed final game in almost a decade

Saturday’s number of 25.98 million is the largest audience for a Game 7 of the World Series since 2017, when the Houston Astros beat the Dodgers to win their first championship in franchise history.  The game also brought the highest ratings for Fox for a Saturday baseball game in almost 30 years.  You have to go back to 1996, when the New York Yankees defeated the Atlanta Braves in Game 6 to win their first title in 18 years in front of almost 30.5 million viewers.  It far exceeded the next highest Saturday baseball number for the network: 16.7 million viewers for Game 4 between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians in 2016.

It’s been over 90 years since a World Series ended on a Saturday, which is normally reserved for college football.  But the last college football game to draw more viewers than Saturday’s matchup was the 1994 Orange Bowl between the Florida Gators and Nebraska Cornhuskers, which took place on New Year’s Day.

The Number also does not include the amount of Canadian viewers who watched the game on Rogers SportsNet, which is expected to be a massive number.
