Over the last several months, there may be no more polarizing and controversial figure in sports media than Dianna Russini. Prior to the 2026 NFL Draft, Russini saw photos of her and New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel engaged in romantic activity in a public bar leaked online.
Both Russini and Vrabel are married, to other people, and both have children with their respective spouses.
The aftermath of this scandal has been one of the more notable topics in sports media, though mainstream analysts and networks shy away from covering it.
Vrabel, for his part, missed the final day of the 2026 NFL Draft to attend counseling and to, according to him, focus on his family. Neither the Patriots nor the NFL will take any disciplinary steps in regard to his alleged involvement with Russini.
Dianna Russini seen on vacation with her husband during 4th of July weekend

While the mainstream media has been silent in regard to the Russini-Vrabel scandal, other news outlets are keeping an eye out. Page Six recently posted an exclusive article showing pictures of the former ESPN and Athletic reporter on a cruise with her husband and kids of the past holiday weekend.
In that report, it is stated, “Dianna Russini was seen on a luxury cruise with her Shake Shack executive husband, Kevin Goldschmidt, and their two sons as they rebuild their marriage after her photo scandal with Mike Vrabel.”
Comments from supposed eye-witnesses contained in the article must be taken with a grain of salt. That being, those alleged “spies” (as the outlet puts it) said the couple seemed affectionate.
In the aftermath of the initial scandal, Russini resigned her position as a lead NFL analyst with The Athletic. Her contract was supposed to be up in June of this year, and she decided to step away early.
The reason why many feel this scandal is such a big deal is because Russini was an NFL Awards voter, and her alleged relationship with the Patriots head coach may have influenced her voting. Both ESPN and The Athletic have conducted investigations into her behavior during her employment with them, but no findings have been announced to the public.
