Grading Super Bowl LX On Last Word On Sports Media Podcast

Super Bowl LX is in the books, and T.J. Rives is wrapping up the good, the bad, and the ugly of the NFL’s big game on the Last Word On Sports Media podcast.  T.J. is joined this week by LastWordOnSports.com media writer Tyler Jones, who also hosts the Jones Report and Racing Roundtable podcasts.

Super Bowl Ends Up Underwhelming Because Of Patriots

Was New England the most unprepared team ever to make it to the big game?

Both T.J. and Tyler seemed to less than impressed with how the game unfolded, especially since New England had virutally no offense to speak of until deep into the second half of the game.  The Patriots trailed 9-0 at the half and were down 19-0 in the fourth quarter before finally getting on the scoreboard.

“I did not see a lot about the fact that New England played arguably the weakest schedule, maybe of any Super Bowl participant in the sixty years of the Super Bowl,” T.J. pointed out.  “Just four games against teams with a winning record.  [They] played 13 of the 17 regular season games against teams with a non-winning record, and I thought it showed.  The Seahawks, by contrast, had played twelve games against teams with a winning record, and were 9-3 in those games, and they just from beginning to end look like the better team.”

Tyler believes a game like Super Bowl LX will create calls for tweaking the postseason system the NFL has been using.

“This Super Bowl would be the type of case you could make of just taking the best 14 teams instead of taking the AFC and NFC Champions for the postseason format and in the Super Bowl,” Tyler said.  “Because the real Super Bowl was that Rams-Seahawks game, and I said that at the time that the winner of that game was going to win the Super Bowl.”

Disappointed Dungy wasn’t pressed on his Hall of Fame vote during Super Bowl coverage

When discussing the pregame coverage on NBC, Tyler said the piece with Jac Collinswortth, Tony Dungy, and Rodney Harrison from Alcatraz was well done, but felt that an elephant in the room wasn’t addressed enough, as Dungy said he would not elaborate on his vote involving Patriots owner Robert Kraft and former head coach Bill Belichick, both of whom missed out being elected to the Hall of Fame this year,

“I think not pressing Tony Dungy on his Hall of Fame vote was a big one, with obviously Belichick and Craft not making it, and Tony Dungy’s name being linked to being a reason why those two did not make it,” Tyler explained.  “You know, you’re you’re an analyst. You’re paid to evaluate the game. They should have gotten an answer out of him, to elaborate on how he voted and his thoughts on Belichick and Craft not making the Hall of Fame.”

The guys also added their takes to what has been perhaps the biggest lightning rod from the game: Bad Bunny’s Halftime Show performance and the counter-programming from Turning Point USA the was on YouTube.  They also talk Super Bowl commercials, the upcoming takeover of the NFL Network by ESPN, and Tyler heading to Daytona for the Daytona 500, which will kick off the start of the 2026 NASCAR season.
