Texas college football once again grabbed national attention. On Pigskin & Burnt Ends, IndyCarTim broke down a loaded weekend. From Houston’s steady rise to Arch Manning’s struggles in Austin, the Lone Star State shaped the conversation. Still, no game loomed larger than Texas A&M’s statement win at Notre Dame.

Houston Cougars Shine with Connor Wigman

The Houston Cougars beat Colorado 36–20 in a strong performance. Quarterback Connor Wigman threw for 221 yards and ran for 83 more. He added three total touchdowns and looked comfortable leading the Cougars’ offense. After earlier wins over Stephen F. Austin and Rice, Houston is now 3–0. The schedule toughens soon with Oregon State and Texas Tech waiting.

Arch Manning Faces More Questions at Texas

Texas defeated UTEP 27–10, but fans left with more concerns than confidence. Arch Manning ran for two scores but struggled passing. Surprisingly, some fans booed him in Austin. Head coach Steve Sarkisian defended Manning’s ability, saying the talent is there. Still, consistency has been missing. With SEC play about to begin, Manning must elevate quickly if Texas hopes to stay in the playoff picture.

Texas A&M’s Culture Shift Under Mike Elko

The weekend’s biggest moment came in South Bend. Texas A&M stunned No. 10 Notre Dame 31–28, ending a 13-game road skid against ranked teams. Quarterback Marcel Reed threw for 306 yards and two touchdowns, while receiver Carver exploded for 207 receiving yards. It was A&M’s first road win over a ranked opponent since 2014. More importantly, it reflected the cultural change under head coach Mike Elko. Past Aggies teams often crumbled in close moments. This one held firm and delivered.

Elsewhere, SMU rebounded from its Baylor loss, Texas Tech kept piling up points, and North Texas rolled Washington State 59–10. Still, Texas A&M’s resilience at Notre Dame stood tallest. For Elko’s Aggies, this may be the win that sparks a defining season.
