The legacy of the PGA Tour in its entirety is what makes it so special and a lifeline for those like Phil Mickelson. The backbone of the business is the many decorated golfers that have competed over the years. From the names of those like Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and so many more. Unfortunately in recent news, those same trailblazers have found themselves in the hot seat. Mickelson has been in the headlines as of late, accused of “inappropriate conduct” at a golf course. A six-time major winner in Mickelson was removed from his membership at a San Diego area golf club. Now having to answer for his accused actions, his career is headed towards a sudden decline.
Mickelson Fighting For Name
This is the first in a while the once dominant Tour athlete has been front and center of the media. According to reports, Mickelson approached an unidentified female employee of Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, California, when he allegedly made “nonconsensual and inappropriate physical contact” with her. After she rejected his advances, she made a report of the incident to her bosses.
Mickelson was in the groove of a round of golf, when approached and reported to leave the club. With many around the sport of golf fans of his play, yet now in shock after the news of this accused incident. Prompting the Farms Golf Club to release a statement in regard to the accusations.
“The Farms Golf Club is committed to maintaining a golf club environment that is safe, respectful and reflects the highest standards of conduct. All members are required to adhere to our Code of Conduct, and any allegations of misconduct are taken seriously. Following a staff member report of member misconduct, the Club provided immediate and ongoing support to the staff member, conducted a thorough independent investigation of the incident and took decisive action. This individual is no longer a member of The Farms Golf Club,” the golf club said in a statement to Golf Digest.
What’s Next For Mickelson
The next move for the 55-year-old is one that’s up in the air, already announcing earlier this year his decision to step away from golf. Now being accused of said actions adds another roadblock in his reemergence, having to answer for the allegations.
In reports, a legal representative of Mickelson was able to express a response to all of the recent headlines. Speaking to the large amount of misinformation being spread on their client, while Mickelson attends to a family matter.
“There is a great deal of misinformation circulating and, while Phil’s full attention is devoted to a private family health matter, he has retained defamation counsel and is determined to hold accountable any publication or individual trafficking in speculation or false rumors,” attorney Tom Clare said.
The six-time major champion is behind the eight ball as it currently stands, fighting for his image and name. The said accusations have yet to be confirmed true, until then Mickelson is in for a tough battle uphill.
