Bryson DeChambeau Sticking With LIV

In the past week, there have been a lot of questions about what will happen to LIV Golf.  With the PIF pulling out of the league, it only has funding for the rest of the season.  Beyond that, the future of the disruptive league is completely in the air unless it finds some new sponsors.  One of the biggest questions is what the players will do now.  Bryson DeChambeau has said he is sticking with the league.

Bryson DeChambeau’s Contract

DeChambeau was one of the early members of the league and was given a multi-year contract.  With his contract expiring at the end of this season, there has been a lot of speculation as to whether or not he will stay.  DeChambeau has stated numerous times that he wants to renew the contract, but he’s just deep in negotiations.  LIV Golf also wants to keep him in the league, as he is a very valuable player.

How DeChambeau Sees LIV Golf

When it comes to LIV Golf, DeChambeau sees a lot of value in the league.  According to interviews, it’s why he sticks around.  After the Mexico City event, DeChambeau was speaking on Flushing It, and he’s approaching the league the way someone would approach a startup.  In that, sometimes things get hard on everyone involved.  DeChambeau would say the following:

“There’s a lot of moving parts, like in any business. It’s a startup, right?”  DeChambeau continued.  “And so there’s going to be times where we’re squeezed and punched. This is one of those moments. But I’m going to do everything in my power to make it work, and I really see the value in franchise golf.”

DeChambeau took a moment to appreciate his team as another reason why he is staying with LIV.  He really likes the team aspect of the league.

DeChambeau continued with his statement.  “Jon, Phil, DJ, myself and the guys that have been here from the start, we’re okay. It’s now our responsibility to take care of these kids that believe in us. That’s why I’m really doing it. There’s so much value to squeeze out of this whole thing for golf in general.”

In the same interview, DeChambeau brings up the contract renegotiations, confirming that he is still in talks with the heads at LIV.  The negotiations are a big piece of the aforementioned rumors about his split with LIV.  He also said that his main focus right now is ensuring that LIV.  He wants to make it work, and he’s already four years into this.

What Happens After LIV?

Despite what DeChambeau says, he is still subject to exit rumors.  Even more so now, with the funding issue, leaving everyone wondering what will happen with players like him if it doesn’t work out.  DeChambeau has multiple pathways set for his next step in his career.  He could be caught up in the PGA’s returning membership program, go to another tour, or double down on his YouTube career and play as an alternate at professional events.  If anything happens, DeChambeau will be fine.
