Victor Perez Explains His Switch To LIV Golf

These past couple of weeks, as the 2025 season came to an end, there have been announcements of players switching between leagues.  Most recently, Laurie Canter earned his Tour Card and is now rumored to be switching back to LIV Golf.  Another player who is making the switch to LIV Golf is Victor Perez, and now he is explaining his reasoning for making the switch.

Before The Switch

During his time with the PGA, Victor Perez hasn’t seen a single victory on the Tour.  He has seen victories on other circuits like the DP World Tour and has played in the Olympics, but nothing on the PGA.  This year on the FedEx Cup, the Fall Series, and the OWGR, he found himself outside of the top 100.  Perez was on the verge of losing his Tour Card, something that he had only had since 2023.  With the changes to the number of Tour Card holders, he found himself on the chopping block and left before it was made official.

Perez Explains His Choice

For the initial announcement, Victor Perez described LIV Golf as a great opportunity for him and a part of the next evolution for the sport.  Recently, he explained more of the story.  Specifically, he explained more about his struggles with the PGA, which has a constantly changing policy.  While also confirming the Tour Card cuts as a factor in his decision.  Perez went on Bunkered and explained.

“Probably one of the points that I’ve struggled the most in America the last two years has been this kind of movement of the goalposts.  Year after year, the rule changes that basically makes the playing field like really challenging to read.”  Perez continued: “You know, there’s been times early in the year where I thought I had qualified for one, but then actually I didn’t qualify and then end up qualifying for some.  Trying to keep up with other things they were trying to do made it a bit more difficult.” Perez then went on to highlight the Tour’s decision to cut 25 cards.”

Perez went on to describe how he went to Brian Rolapp to inquire about the changes.  He walked away with the understanding that there will be more changes coming in the near future.  Perez wanted more stability in his career and saw that stability in LIV Golf, despite the big changes that are happening over there as well.

Perez In LIV Golf

Despite his time on the PGA Tour, Victor Perez has set himself up for LIV Golf.  He desires a stable point in his career and believes that the renegade league can provide that.  It is switching to a 72-hole format, so the transition won’t be too jarring.  He does acknowledge that people may point to his performance as a major reason for leaving.  Perez also acknowledges that he could have done better himself.  For Victor Perez, switching to LIV Golf is going to be a pivotal moment in his career.  As to whether or not it will be a good choice, only time will tell.
