Bryson DeChambeau On Top Of His Game Despite Being On LIV

While on the Straight Facts Homie podcast, Trey Wingo and Brandel Chamblee were talking about LIV Golf and its future with its players and finances.  Part of the focus was on how star players could return to the PGA if they were to ever need to.  One more thing that came up was how Bryson DeChambeau is still fairly on top of his game.  The two started speculating on how he can stay at his skill level while on LIV, and Chamblee believes that it has nothing to do with LIV.

LIV Golf Is Pretty Relaxed

Something that has been brought up by players on LIV Golf is that the new league is much more easygoing than the PGA or the DP World Tour.  Sure, it is louder with concerts, flash mobs, and pyrotechnics, but players agree that it is pretty easy going.  Dustin Johnson has pointed this out and cites it as a reason why he is content.  The 54-hole format with shotgun starts is less intense compared to the standard.  It’s part of why the OWGR isn’t awarding points, and why other LIV golfers seem to be off their game when playing in majors or on the DP World Tour.  Players like Bryson DeChambeau are just playing with different rules.  Now, how is he still on top of things?

DeChambeau And His Caddie

When it comes to pro golf, it doesn’t matter if the player is playing for a team or not.  They are always on a team.  The other member on that team just happens to be the caddie.  A partner who will give their two cents on the field and recommend a strategy to approach the game.  Bryson DeChambeau has a stellar caddie in Gregory Bodine.  This is who Brandel Chamblee believes is responsible for DeChambeau staying on top.  Despite being on LIV, he found a caddie who can help him more than make up for any shortcomings.

“But I mean, it’s not like he suddenly got better when he went to LIV. He got better when he changed caddy,” Chamblee said.

Bodine has the experience needed to be such a great caddy, too.  Before DeChambeau, he had been a PGA caddy for twenty years.  He even caddied for Tony Finau.  He approaches his job in a way that can foster the skill of the player he pairs up with, as well as forming a bond.

Bryson DeChambeau Still Has It

During the podcast, Chamblee was criticising DeChambeau for joining LIV, but also praised him for his skill.  He called DeChambeau a compelling watch, and it seems that there are fans who agree on that end.  When the rumors of DeChambeau splitting with LIV circulated earlier this year, fans were begging him to come back.  He still does well in majors and events outside of LIV and was good enough to be on the US Ryder Cup team.  The next question that should be asked is whether Bryson DeChambeau can stay on top of his game.
