Scottie Scheffler has spoken about his relationship with President Donald Trump ahead of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in New York. President Trump is expected to be in attendance at the upcoming Ryder Cup to cheer on Team USA. The four-time major winner revealed that President Trump often reaches out to him after tournament victories and described him as someone who treats people with respect and has a deep love for the game of golf.
Scheffler Gets A Call Or Text From Trump After Wins
Scheffler’s account personally connects President Trump to the game, even as Trump actively owns several golf courses and remains closely tied to the sport. According to Scheffler, President Trump’s presence often has a positive effect on those around him. He described President Trump as someone who loves the game of golf and “treats people with the utmost respect.”
Scheffler believes this is part of why his support matters. The World No. 1 also revealed that he sometimes receives a phone call or a text from President Trump after winning tournaments. Those gestures, he explained, give him encouragement and confidence.
“The president’s kind of funny,” Scheffler said in a conference. “He loves the game of golf. He loves supporting golfers, and I get a call or a text from him sometimes after wins. And he just loves the game of golf and he’s one of those guys when you’re around him, he does such a good job of almost like feeding confidence into everybody around him. That was one of the things I noticed a lot with the little bit of time I spent with him is he treats everybody the same and treats people with the utmost respect.”
Scheffler Welcomes Trump’s Presence At Bethpage
Scheffler also spoke about Trump’s expected presence at this year’s Ryder Cup. The World No. 1 believes having the president around could be important, especially as the American team faces pressure to perform on home soil. President Trump’s visit to Bethpage Black coincides with the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s assassination earlier this month.
President Trump has built much of his public image around golf. From playing regularly to hosting events at his courses, the President has made the sport part of his life. He is due to visit the course on the first day of competitive action. The 79-year-old President has regularly attended major sporting events since returning to the White House, including the men’s singles final at the U.S. Open between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. President Trump also attended the New York Yankees game against the Detroit Tigers on the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Scheffler believes President Trump’s support could inspire Team USA at the Ryder Cup, boosting confidence and bringing extra energy to the American team on home soil.
