Recently, the PGA Tour has started putting out its schedule for the coming years. Previously, it has been revealed that there will be a new event for 2026, as well as a return to Austin, Texas. Recently, ahead of the Ryder Cup in New York, the PGA has announced that the state will host three majors in the coming years.
The KPMG In Bethpage Black
This year, Bethpage Black will be hosting the Ryder Cup as soon as next week. However, in 2028, the course will be seeing a major for the women’s league. It will be hosting the Women’s PGA Championship. The course is in the top 50 for America’s greatest golf courses according to Golf Digest. With the course about to host the Ryder Cup, it will attract some attention for the league, with the name alone being an ad campaign in itself. Being just outside of New York City on Long Island, the course tournament will see its fair share of attention.
The PGA Championship
For the men’s circuit, New York will be hosting two majors. Both will be the PGA Championship in 2033 and 2035, whereas this year it was hosted at Quail Hollow. Two separate courses will be seeing the major, the first is Bethpage Black in 2033, and the second will be Oak Hill. Oak Hill has hosted the major in the past, most recently in 2023, and has been well-received.
PGA Tour In New York
As far as hosting the PGA Championship goes, New York has the most out of all the states. After 2035, New York will have hosted the major sixteen times in total. According to the PGA of America President, being able to play in New York has its own sense of pride.
“The PGA of America is incredibly proud to be returning to New York and two world-class venues in Bethpage Black and Oak Hill Country Club,” said PGA of America President Don Rea Jr.“Bringing the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship to Bethpage Black is a significant milestone and reflects our commitment to staging this event at premier courses in major markets.”
Rea goes on to say how Bethpage Black is a strong course that delivered memorable moments back in 2019, and is likely to do so again. Oak Hill has long proven itself to be a premier course for majors and will likely be a good choice to host more in the future. New York Governor Kathy Hochul only sees good things coming from these golf tournaments. She believes it will be beneficial for the local economy, attracting tourists and golf enthusiasts. All while giving more attention to the state. Hochul is also excited for the state to host the women’s tournament for the first time.
PGA Tour And New York
New York has long been a host for the American circuit. Being one of the most populated states, it has a lot to offer for the sport and vice versa. The local golf community will be excited to see another major come around, and the state will be happy to see another injection of tourism revenue. All around, good things are coming for New York with the majors coming in again. All that’s left to do is to see how the majors play out as they come.
