Sports Icons Tiger Woods, LeBron James, Caitlin Clark Celebrate Tommy Fleetwood’s First PGA Tour win

Sports icons Tiger Woods, LeBron James, and Caitlin Clark have congratulated Tommy Fleetwood on his historic victory at the 2025 Tour Championship. The win gave Fleetwood his first PGA Tour title and also earned him a place in the FedEx Cup field, ending years of near misses and close calls.

Fleetwood’s triumph came at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, where he shot a final-round 68 to finish three strokes clear of Patrick Cantlay and Russell Henley. The victory marked the end of a long wait for the 34-year-old. Fleetwood had started 164 PGA Tour events without a win before Sunday, despite posting 30 top-five and 44 top-10 finishes.

Among those who were first to congratulate him on the achievement were some of the biggest names in sports. Tiger Woods, widely regarded as the greatest golfer of his generation, praised Fleetwood’s determination and consistency. In a post on X, Woods said no one deserved the moment more than Fleetwood.

“Your journey is a reminder that hard work, resilience, and heart do pay off. No one deserves it more. Congrats @TommyFleetwood1!”

LeBron James, who has long supported athletes across different sports, was equally enthusiastic. The Los Angeles Lakers star congratulated Fleetwood and spoke about how special it feels to finally capture that elusive first win.

“Congrats and 🫡 @TommyFleetwood1!!! That first one feeling is something else! Especially after dealing with adversity and shortcomings. Too 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🏆’’ James wrote on X.

Women’s basketball star Caitlin Clark also added her voice to the celebration. Clark posted a short but heartfelt message that summed up the moment: “Awesome. Sports rock,” as a follow-up to an earlier post: “This has to be Fleetwood’s day,” just before the Englishman teed off.

Fleetwood Ends Years Of Pain

The 34-year-old Englishman had built a reputation as one of the best players never to win on the PGA Tour, despite contending in majors and competing regularly with the game’s best. He came close to winning at the Travelers Championship, only to be stopped by a three-putt on the final hole and a surge of birdies from Keegan Bradley.

Fleetwood again held a two-shot lead with three holes left two weeks ago in Memphis, Tennessee, at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, but slipped with a par on the reachable par-5 16th and a bogey on the 17th. That opened the door for his compatriot Justin Rose, who charged late and went on to beat J.J. Spaun in a playoff.

The Englishman admitted in his post-game comments that the win was deeply emotional and acknowledged the support he received from fans and fellow players over the years, saying that encouragement helped him push forward even when the results fell short.
