Golf Fans Demand PGA Tour Penalize Cantlay After Viral “Plenty of Waggles” Tee Box Delay

Fans have called for the PGA Tour to punish Patrick Cantlay after a viral video showed him taking too long on the tee. The clip captured Cantlay going through several waggles and adjustments before finally hitting his shot. Viewers said the delay was excessive and demanded that officials step in.

“Unwatchable:’’ Fans Tear Into Cantlay’s Slow Play

Cameras stayed on him as he stood over the ball, wagging his club again and again during the final round of the Tour Championship. The pause stretched long enough to spark frustration among fans watching at home, with many saying it ruined the flow of the broadcast and slowed down the group.

Social media reacted as clips of Cantlay’s routine spread across platforms, drawing thousands of comments. Some fans joked about using a stopwatch, while others criticized the Tour for not enforcing its pace-of-play rules. One fan wrote, “17 minutes to play that hole. It’s a joke. He needs to be penalized. They won’t be done till midnight the way he plays.”

Another fan also urged the PGA Tour to do something about slow play. “And imagine that they are on the clock. This guy is unwatchable! PGA needs to do something about these slow players. Fuck em I’ll just change the channel and watch LIV golf.”

However, one fan claimed that the PGA Tour lacked the required strictness to punish slow play. “They are almost two holes behind. Haven’t heard they’re on the clock. Even if they were, we all know @PGATOUR doesn’t have the stones to penalize them for slow play,” the fan wrote.

Fans Label Cantlay an “Unlikable” Player

This is not the first time Cantlay has faced complaints about his pace. Earlier this year at the Masters, Brooks Koepka openly voiced his frustration about long waits on the course, pointing indirectly at Cantlay. Other players have also hinted that competing alongside him can be mentally draining because of the drawn-out routines.

The 33-year-old has defended his style in the past, saying that his preparation helps him focus under pressure. But fans do not agree. Many believe the delays make golf harder to watch, and one fan even went as far as labeling the American an “unlikable” player. “I’d rather watch paint dry. Maybe the most unlikable player ever. Please don’t put him on our Ryder Cup Team ‘cause he doesn’t give a sh**,” another fan said.

Many believe the PGA Tour’s pace-of-play policy is too weak to tackle slow play. Players rarely receive stroke penalties, and officials usually give warnings instead. Critics say this approach has allowed slow play to become a bigger problem. Cantlay, because of his style, has become the main focus of those complaints.
