“My Wife’s Pregnant, and I Need to Go Home”: Max Homa’s Race Against Time

Max Homa has revealed that he and his wife are expecting their second child, and he feels he needs to win the 3M Open to return home and witness the birth. The 34-year-old married his wife, Lacey, in 2019 and welcomed their first child, Cam, in 2022.

Homa Needs To Win To Go Home

Max Homa is facing one of the most intense stretches of his career both on and off the golf course. As the PGA Tour playoffs heat up, Homa is also preparing for a major life moment- the birth of his second child. Homa’s wife Lacey, is due in two weeks and the 34-year-old wants to be present for the birth of his child.

As the couple to prepares to welcome baby number two, Homa is doing his best to compete at a high level while staying ready to fly home at a moment’s notice.

“Yeah, it’s really hard to compartmentalize that. Yeah, I need to win. I really need to win because my wife’s pregnant and I need to go home. We have like two weeks left,” Homa said in a press conference after his round on Thursday. “It’s a little extra stressful, but I think the only way that you can go out and win a golf tournament is by not exactly trying to win a golf tournament. So it’s a weird headspace,” he added.

The 34-year-old currently sits at No. 102 in the FedEx Cup season-long standings and 105th in the Official World Golf Ranking, and faces a fight to qualify for the FedEx Cup Playoffs. Homa has missed seven cuts this year and even had to withdraw from the 2025 Farmers Insurance Open due to illness. Homa admits the situation adds extra weight to each tournament but he knows what he needs to do to win.

“I know what I need to do. I need to play unbelievable.” Homa added. “So fortunately, my game’s felt awesome the last month or so…I don’t know how you just make yourself win. I’m just trying to kind of keep doing what I’m doing and see what happens on a Sunday.”

Home Ready To Fly Home For Birth Of Second Child

Max Homa has had a tough season, which is why he’s now in this tricky position. Two weeks ago, he finished tied for fifth at the John Deere Classic to record his first top-10 result of the year. Last week, he picked up a few FedEx Cup points with a T-45 finish at the Barracuda Championship. Although he started well at the 3M Open on Thursday with a 5-under-par 66, he still found himself six shots behind the leader, Adam Svensson.

Despite looking forward to returning home, Homa also revealed that he is still scheduled to play at the Wyndham Championship next week. “My wife told me to play, so it’s scheduled the Monday after the Wyndham. Yeah, just every day I finish a day of golf I look at my phone and see if I’m flying home so we’ll see. It’s a good problem to have.“
