Højgaard Twins Team Up At Zurich Classic

The PGA Tour is a community of some of the best golf talent in the entire world. You have the top names in the sport battling it out on the regular, all looking to succeed throughout the season. With the Zurich Classic of New Orleans to take place Thursday evening, duos will team up in their quest for victory. One of the main in Rory Mcllroy and Shane Lowry, looking to defend their previous tournament win. Although identical twins Nicolai Højgaard and Rasmus will be looking to steal the spotlight. The two are forging their path from Denmark by all means, but yet to experience the taste of a career victory between the two. With the power of twin telepathy maybe this tournament will be the start of wins to the column.

Højgaard Twins Team Up

Both 24 years-old, the Højgaard brothers have been pro since 2019 and making strides every tournament appearance. With both most recent appearances at the Masters Tournament, Rasmus was able to finish tied for 32nd place while Nicolai did not make the cut. Gaining some experience and knowledge against top tier talent, the two are now looking to handle things while on the same team. In 2021, they made their impact on the sport as the first brothers to win consecutive events on the DP World Tour.

“It was difficult for our parents when one played well and one didn’t,” Rasmus said. “Do they go up to the guy that played well first, or the guy that played not-so-well? We had a few rules in the family, and I think it helped us quite a bit. Obviously back then we were immature, and over the years we’ve managed to support each other more than being jealous.”

Growing up as young kids, the Højgaard twins took the game of golf seriously from the start. A big influence came from their father, who instilled the importance of discipline and seeing the game as a “checklist”.

Discipline Coming From Within

The twins’ father Ore, is a commercial pilot who has flown for many years according to reports. In his job he has a Pre-flight checklist that is mandatory, something he has over time instilled into the life of his children. Teaching both Rasmus and Nicolai the connection of the two fields, came in the emotional aspect.

“That discipline he has in a situation where something happens is the same as on the golf course,” Nicolai said. “When there’s a problem, you’ve got to remain calm. The first thing you do is you open the book, what’s the checklist, and then just do it correctly each time instead of stressing and making an irrational or a rushed decision.

Remaining calm will be key for the two who have always had a brotherly competition between the two. Now, they will get the chance to bring that fire to the rest of a talented field of play. Understanding what they both do well, and incorporating that into one solid game will be the difference. If the Højgaard brothers can implement their lifelong values, they should be ready for the many other talented duos ready to showcase as well. Interesting enough, they will also have fellow brother duos in competition as well.
