While the ACC looks crazy every week, there are starting to be some patterns emerging with the player of the week voting. That flies in the face of the some inexplicable football on the field. Nonetheless, we take our regular look at the ACC Players of the Week.
Quarterback of the Week
Stop us if you have seen this one before. Miami’s Cam Ward is the ACC choice for the best quarterback of the week. He led a huge come-from-behind win for the Hurricanes at Cal Saturday night. Ward finished the game 35 of 53 passing for 437 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a rushing touchdown. Ward also leads the country in total passing yards, passing yards per game, and passing touchdowns.
Running Back of the Week
The weekends are so full of chaos that a Friday night game seems like forever ago. But LeQuint Allen’s performance for Syracuse in the win at UNLV did not get overlooked. He had 129 all-purpose yards. Allen had 71 yards on the ground and 58 receiving. He also scored the winning touchdown for the Orange in overtime. His nine pass receptions moves him into second place all-time for catches by a Syracuse running back.
Receiver of the Week
Desmond Reid had 11 catches for 155 yards in the Pitt win at North Carolina on Saturday. He finished with 210 all-purpose yards. He is the first running back in school history to have two 100-yard receiving games in the same season.
Offensive Lineman of the Week
Clemson’s offense looks like a big deal again, and the offensive line is playing a big part of that. Marcus Tate anchored the Tigers’ line in the win over Florida State. Clemson’s offense put up 235 yards passing and 265 yards rushing in the win.
Defensive Lineman of the Week
Syracuse defensive end Fadil Diggs had two sacks, including one in the decisive overtime, to help the Orange get the win at UNLV. Diggs also had four solo tackles and six total tackles.
Linebacker of the Week
Kyle Louis of Pitt gets the nod for the second time this season. He had nine total tackles, including two-and-a-half tackles for loss. He also had the game-clinching sack in the win at North Carolina Saturday.
Defensive Back of the Week
Jonas Sanker of Virginia had six tackles and a 40-yard scoop and score in Virginia’s comeback win over Boston College. It was Virginia’s first fumble recovery for a touchdown since the 2019 season.
Specialist of the Week
Nolan Hause of Clemson was five for five on field goals and had 17 total points for the Tigers in the win over Florida State. That is the most field goals for a Clemson kicker since 2011.
Rookie of the Week
Hey, maybe we can just start cutting and pasting this in each week. Pitt quarterback Eli Holstein is the choice. This is the fifth time he has been the choice in the five games he has played this season. He had 381 yards passing, a Pitt freshman record, and added 76 yards rushing on 10 carries. His four 300-yard passing game ties him for the most by a Pitt freshman with Alex Van Pelt in 1989.
