ACC Football Is Putting the Long in a Long Weekend

Witten List Includes Two ACC Players

As we head into week one of the 2024 college football, we learn that ACC football is putting the long in a long weekend. ACC teams will begin playing Thursday night and are on the schedule with all 17 conference teams in action over Labor Day weekend.

Florida State and Georgia Tech opened 2024 action for the ACC with an actual conference game in Week 0 in Dublin, Ireland. And SMU won a closer-than-it-should-have-been game at Nevada.

The weekend schedule for the ACC starts Thursday night.

Thursday, August 29th

North Carolina plays at Minnesota in the back half of a home-and-home series. That game is at 8 pm Eastern on ESPN. North Carolina State hosts Western Carolina, and Wake Forest hosts North Carolina A&T. Both games are at 7 pm Eastern. Wake’s game will be on the ACC Network Extra. The UNC game in Minneapolis will be on Fox.

Friday, August 30th

On Friday night, Elon will travel 40 miles to Durham to take on Duke at 7:30 pm Eastern on the ACC Network. And ACC newbie, the Stanford Cardinal will host TCU at 10:30 pm Eastern on ESPN.

Saturday, August 31st

One of the national marquee games of the weekend is Saturday with Clemson traveling to Athens, GA to play the Bulldogs. That game is at noon Eastern on ABC.

Kent State will visit Pitt, (noon Eastern on ESPNU). Virginia Tech is at Vanderbilt at noon Eastern on ESPN. Austin Peay goes to Louisville for a game on the ACC Network at noon Eastern. Also on the ACC Network, Syracuse hosts Ohio at 3:30 pm Eastern.

Miami will travel to Florida to play the Gators in a game featuring two coaches on the hottest seats. That is at 3:30 pm Eastern on ABC. ACC’s new kid Cal plays host to UC Davis. It’s an annual game based on the close geography of the two schools. Based on how much Cal has to travel in its first ACC season, the regional games are a luxury. This one is at 5 pm Eastern on the ACC Network.

Saturday night also brings us some very under-the-radar games. Virginia hosts Richmond (6 pm Eastern on ACC Extra). Georgia Tech, coming off a big win over Florida State hosts Georgia State at 8 pm Eastern on the ACC Network. And SMU, after squeaking by in week zero, hosts Houston Christian at 8 pm Eastern on ACC Extra.

Monday, August 2nd.

With no ACC games on Sunday, we move to Labor Day Monday for Boston College at Florida State, with the Seminoles in dire need of a win only two weeks into the season. This conference game will be at 7:30 pm Eastern on ESPN.
