The 2025 Ohio State recruiting class is shaping up and another top defensive recruit has pledged to come to Columbus. On June 9th, four-star safety Faheem Delane committed to the Buckeyes. Delane marks the 14th commit to the 2025 class, the ninth defensive player, the fifth defensive back, and the third safety. Delane is also rated as the best overall player from Maryland.

With this commitment, Ryan Day‘s squad takes over the top 2025 class according to both 247Sports and On3‘s recruiting rankings. The second-best class, according to 247Sports, is Notre Dame and its 21 commitments.

Four-Star Safety Faheem Delane Commits to Ohio State

Delane joins three-star safeties DeShawn Stewart and Cody Haddad in the 2025 class and is considered by 247Sports to be the fourth-best at the position at the time of his commitment.

Scouts speak highly of Delane’s ability to do just about everything a safety needs to do. He was measured at just over six-foot-two and 200 pounds last summer and has a college-ready frame already. In the secondary, the four-star safety has been utilized primarily as a box safety and as a nickel corner. In those roles, he’s had quite a bit of success, notching 69 tackles and 18 pass breakups. As a sophomore in 2022, Delane amassed 44 tackles and forced a pair of fumbles, according to Max Preps.

Delane is adept at both coverage and as a run defender. He can cover in a zone as well as man. As a box safety, he is willing and able to come up and defend the run and get home on the blitz. Aggression and physicality are two words often used to describe Delane’s play, much like former Buckeye, Josh Proctor.

In terms of his impact, Proctor’s role with the Buckeyes’ defense is a good place to look. Delane will be best utilized as a tone-setting safety who can come up and make a play rather than sit back as a centerfield type of safety.

Delane held scholarship offers from over 30 Power 4 programs but the four-star safety ultimately chose the Buckeyes.
