Recruiting is year-round and Ryan Day has excelled since taking over the program. He took his first loss of the 2025 cycle as four-star cornerback Blake Woodby announced that he was de-committing from Ohio State. Ohio State’s top-two class now has 13 commits.

Blake Woodby Decommits from Ohio State’s 2025 Class

Woodby is a top cornerback recruit out of Maryland, a state the Buckeyes have recruited well over the last few years. Woodby committed to the Buckeyes on October 4 of last year and was the first of the trio to do so.

He’s lauded as an athletic freak by scouts as he was timed as a high schooler with a 4.39 40-yard dash. He’s a bit smaller in stature but makes up for it with his aggressive play and positional versatility. Woodby was named as a MaxPreps All-American as a Junior “all-purpose” defender.

Whoever earns his commitment next will be getting a sticky corner who will do his best work at the line of scrimmage. 247SportsAndrew Ivins believes Woodby will be a long-time contributor for a College Football Playoff contender.

When Woodby initially committed, he chose the Buckeyes over Alabama, Clemson, Tennessee, and Oregon. The talented cornerback is the second-best overall recruit from the state of Maryland.

What’s Next for Ohio State

The Buckeyes’ 2025 recruiting class, as of May 16, is second-best in the nation according to 247Sports. The lone program ahead of them is Notre Dame and their 20 commits versus Ohio State’s 12.

If there was going to be a position the Buckeyes can afford to lose, it’s at cornerback. Currently, Ohio State has commitments from each of the top two corners in the cycle in Devin Sanchez and Na’eem Offord. Additionally, while crystal ball predictions are foggy, the Buckeyes are projected to land the fourth-rated corner, Dorian Brew. Even more enticingly, Brew is the son of Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame, Donica Merriman.

The 2025 recruiting cycle is well in tow. Ohio State is in the thick of things with plenty of top-tier talent. Woodby’s decommitment comes the same day as he announced Cincinnati, Auburn, and UCF offered scholarships. He will likely have his pick of the litter as he holds offers from numerous other Power 4 programs like Alabama, Clemson, Oregon, and Michigan.
