Michigan Lands Three-Star CB Jeremiah Lowe

Jeremiah Lowe Commits to the Wolverines

After flipping three-star cornerback Jo’Ziah Edmond from Purdue, Michigan has once again added another corner to the 2024 class. Jeremiah Lowe, a three-star cornerback from Frederick Douglass High School in Kentucky, committed to the Wolverines on Thursday. He is ranked the 96th cornerback and 1,091st overall recruit in the country per 247Sports Composite. Lowe is the 9th overall player in Kentucky. He also held offers from Boston College, Missouri, and West Virginia. The Wolverines now have 28 total pledges towards their 2024 class, which has dropped to the sixth-rated class in the nation within the past week.

What Does This Mean for Michigan?

Lowe is not the most highly-rated recruit, but his highlights show a player worth developing. At 5-11, 170 pounds, Lowe has average size for the position and lacks the prototypical build of most Power 5 cornerbacks. He is physical in press coverage and displays good instincts and ball skills. His physicality shows up when supporting the run as well. Lowe’s skillset would fit in well at nickel in Michigan’s defense. His play style is reminiscent of current starting nickel Mike Sainristil. Like Lowe, Sainristil had modest rankings coming out of high school and is not the biggest guy on the field. Lowe could follow a similar path to Sainristil at Michigan and find himself in a similar role after a few years of development.

After missing out on several top cornerback targets, Michigan has rebounded with two commitments at the position. Defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale is known for his connections in Kentucky and was able to land a top player in the state. Both Edmond and Lowe are big wins that Michigan desperately needed at cornerback. Missing out on top players like Aaron Scott certainly stings, but the Wolverines were able to land two developmental players with good upside. Michigan may not be done yet as cornerback is a big position of need this cycle. Some other prospects to keep an eye on are three-star Kyan McDonald and Michigan State commit Syair Torrence.

Outside of corner, Michigan is still pushing for the pledge of several top targets. The Wolverines are in the mix for five-star wide receiver Ryan Wingo, four-star safety Zaquan Patterson, and four-star edge rusher Brian Robinson. A couple more commitments from some high-profile targets should solidify a top-10 finish for Michigan’s 2024 class.
