We are getting down to crunch time. There are three weeks left in the regular. We have had two weeks of playoff polls. There is a narrowing of the field for the various conference races. And awards committees are starting to put their heads together to whittle away at the lists of finalists. Likewise, we have a change at the top of the Last Word Heisman Rankings. Last week, Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker was atop the polling.
Now, while the list is quarterback-heavy, it is a running back that has garnered the majority of the voting points from our panel of writers. We’ll dive into that and more as we break down the contenders in our 2022 Week 10 Heisman rankings.

Top Five Candidates
1. Blake Corum
RB | Michigan Next Game: 11/12 vs. Nebraska

2. Hendon Hooker
QB | Tennessee Next Game: 11/12 vs Missouri
Hooker was our number one last week. That was before the loss at Georgia. It was Hooker’s first less-than-stellar game of the season. He threw for 195 yards with zero touchdowns and an interception. He still has some of the best passing stats in the country against SEC competition. He’s not out of the Heisman race by any stretch. We’re not Josh Heupel is going to use the Missouri game as a stat builder, but if he wanted to…

3. C.J. Stroud
QB | Ohio State Next Game: 11/12 vs. Indiana
Stroud has been on our list since the season started. He’s been on everyone’s list since the season started. His stats took a beating last week. There was a driving rain and strong gusting winds throughout the game at Northwestern. The teams were tied at halftime before Ohio State had a second-half comeback for the win. But the Buckeyes had little success trying to throw in the wind. Stroud was 10/26 for 76 yards. He gets a chance for redemption this week as the Buckeyes play an Indiana pass defense that is ranked among the worst in the country.

4. Max Duggan
QB | TCU Next Game: 11/12 @ Texas
Duggan continues to ride the wave that is a remarkable season for both he and TCU. He has now been on the list for a couple of weeks, deservedly so as a QB who was not the season starter, but is leading the Horned Frogs through an undefeated season. TCU even cracked the top four in this week’s playoff rankings. Duggan wasn’t great last week, completing just 52% of his passes for 195 yards in the win over Texas Tech. He did have another two touchdown passes. TCU travels to Austin this week.

5. Bryce Young
QB | Alabama Next Game: 11/12 @ Ole Miss
It’s hard to believe the reigning Heisman winner has slipped all the way back to fifth place. He had a very subpar game in the overtime loss to LSU last weekend. His completion rate was 49% with one touchdown and one interception. It caused a significant downward turn in his season stats, including his QB Rating dropping a full 10 points. Bama has two losses, a unique position for them to be in, and it seems some teams have figured out Bill O’Brien’s offense. They visit old friend Lane Kiffin this weekend
