Ohio State’s 2022 schedule dropped after the Big Ten finished revising dates for the upcoming season.
The Big Ten had to change some dates around in the 2022 schedule to accommodate cancelations and other adjustments in 2020. They just released the conference schedule, so now the Buckeyes know what the next season will look like.
With six games moved around, Ohio State’s 2022 schedule is now set in stone. From the opener against Notre Dame to the finale against Michigan and all the games in between, Ohio State will be looking to return to the playoff after a year off.
Ohio State’s 2022 schedule looks like this after the revision:
- Saturday, September 3 vs. Notre Dame
- Saturday, September 10 vs. Arkansas State
- Saturday September 17 vs. Toledo
- Saturday September 24 vs. Wisconsin
- Saturday, October 1 vs. Rutgers
- Saturday, October 8 at Michigan State
- Saturday, October 15 Off
- Saturday, October 22 vs. Iowa
- Saturday, October 29 at Penn State
- Saturday, November 5 at Northwestern
- Saturday, November 12 vs. Indiana
- Saturday, November 19 at Maryland
- Saturday November 26 vs. Michigan
At the end of the season, the conference championship will be on December 3rd. Ohio State will look to return since they missed out last season for the first time in five years.
Observations on Ohio State’s 2022 Schedule
Ohio State Opens Against Notre Dame
The Buckeyes get a tough test to start the year, but Marcus Freeman gets an even tougher head coaching regular season debut.
Freeman took over the Fighting Irish for the Fiesta Bowl, a game which Notre Dame let the lead slip through their fingers.
Previously, Freeman has been the defensive coordinator at Notre Dame and at Cincinnati. So he actually started his coaching career as a grad assistant at Ohio State after he had played linebacker there for three seasons.
He will face Ohio State as a head coach for the first time in his career.
Five Straight Home Games for Ohio State
Last season, the Buckeyes opened at Minnesota. But in 2022, Ohio State won’t hit the road until October.
Ohio State’s 2022 schedule features five home games to start the year, and has six home appearances in the first seven game.
At the beginning of the season, the Buckeyes host Notre Dame, Arkansas State, Toledo, Wisconsin, and Rutgers. They head to East Lansing, then go back to Columbus to host Iowa after the bye.
No Tough Stretches on Ohio State’s Schedule
Ohio State’s 2022 schedule doesn’t have any particularly tough stretches. Right now, the hardest stretch goes from October 22nd to October 29th. The Buckeyes get Iowa after the bye, then go to Happy Valley to face Penn State.
Other than that, most of their hardest games are spaced out. The Notre Dame opener is followed by two games against group of five opponents. Rutgers follows Wisconsin, and the bye follows Michigan State.
After Penn State, the Buckeyes get three teams that four combined wins in the conference last year.
To end the season, they get to play their rival at home, which leads to the next point.
The 2022 Ohio State-Michigan Game is in Columbus
Ohio State will host Michigan for the first time since 2018.
The last time “The Game” was in Columbus, Dwayne Haskins led the Buckeyes to a 62-39 victory. Ryan Day was the offensive coordinator for that game, and he helped hand Jim Harbaugh his fifth straight loss in the series.
Since that time, Ohio State has played two games in Ann Arbor, as the 2020 game in Ohio Stadium was cancelled. The Big Ten kept the 2021 game at Michigan, even though it meant they would host the Buckeyes for two games in a row.
After getting their playoff hopes crushed by Michigan last year, C.J. Stroud and the rest of the Buckeyes will be eager to get back in the win column in the series.
As well as the other many home games, the Buckeyes are looking forward to the home field advantage, and leveling the record against their rivals.
