Ohio State adds Devin Brown, a four-star quarterback from Utah.
Coming in for 2022, the Buckeyes are getting depth at the quarterback position as well as assurance for the future. With C.J. Stroud and Kyle McCord already in Columbus, the Buckeyes’ quarterback room is solid from top-to-bottom.
Ohio State Lands QB Devin Brown
With a four-star quarterback in each of the last three recruiting classes, Brown is the addition to the 2022 class.
He is the 52nd-best player in the country, the fifth-best quarterback, and the best player from Utah according to 247Sports Composite.
His recruiting was mostly focused out west, and Ohio State had to beat USC, Texas, and even Ole Miss. Brown’s visit to Ohio State was on November 20th, when Ohio State beat the breaks off of Michigan State. That surely helped Brown move Sparty down on his list, while it shot Ohio State right to the top.
Brown fits the mold of the strong-armed quarterback that has thrived in Ryan Day’s system. Quarterbacks like J.T. Barrett are a relic of the past, as Day is turning Ohio State into a team that throws early and often.
Brown is 6’3″ and only 190 pounds, so strength and conditioning coach Mick Marotti will have some work to do before Brown can hit the field.
But once Brown is ready, he will be a quarterback that airs the ball out. His arm looks similar to McCord’s when he came out; very strong, but could use a little more touch. Like McCord, Brown isn’t an explosive athlete, but he does look comfortable rolling out and can throw platform almost as well as he can from the pocket.
With Stroud going to New York for the Heisman Trophy presentation, that makes three straight starting quarterbacks under Ryan Day to become a Heisman Finalist. Brown will come into Ohio State with aspirations for hardware.
