Top College Football Recruits: 10/22-10/28

This Weekend, the #1 Alabama Crimson Tide were looking to get revenge against the LSU Tigers but COVID-19 delayed the game.

The past two weeks of commitments have been strong, but nothing like this week. Two five-stars and three four-stars highlight a loaded week of commitments coming off of the market. This week’s top college football recruits were among the best we have seen this season. All recruiting rankings for induvial players are based on the 247Sports Composite.

Top College Football Recruits: 10/22-10/28

Players such as Tulsa commit Braylon Braxton, LSU commit Matthew Langlois, Mississippi State commit Deshawn Page, and Kentucky commit Jamarius Dinkins were all on the verge of making it into the ten best college football commitments of the week. That just goes to show the depth of this week’s recruiting commitments.

10. Zemarion Harrell, OLB, Coastal Carolina

This week’s top college football recruits list could have started with one player outside of the top ten who is rated higher according to the 24/7 Sports Composite score, but Harrell is a much bigger addition to a smaller school like Coastal Carolina. The commit is the 37th ranked outside linebacker and the 614th overall player in 2021. Harrell rotates between outside linebacker and safety. At six-foot-two and 220 pounds, Harrell has decent size. His closing speed is pretty good. However, his ability to lay a hit is what really sticks out. When watching his tape, there are consistently big hits whether that is in the secondary or behind the line of scrimmage.

9. Jacob Schuster, DT, Minnesota

This defensive tackle from Olympia, Washington, has some impressive tape. He is ranked 559th in the nation and 36th at defensive tackle. Schuster is a solid grab for the Minnesota Gophers. Schuster is six-foot-two and 300 pounds but does not move like a 300 pounder. He has a lot of speed as well as strength. Once he is able to get by the lineman in front of him, the quarterback is in a lot of trouble. Speed and power make him a real threat for any defense in the nation.

8. Khristian Zachary, DE, Liberty

The 28th ranked defensive end and 406th overall player in the nation had offers from the like of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, and many other top programs around the nation. However, Zachary decided to join the currently undefeated Liberty Flames. Zachary, like Schuster, is very quick and very strong. The six-foot-three, 250-pound recruit out of Carrollton, Georgia, does seem to be faster than the previously listed recruit. He gives his opposing linemen a lot of issues by having the ability to run right by them.

7. Kamari Lassiter, CB, Georgia

Georgia grabbing the 355th ranked player and 26th cornerback in the nation has to feel good to Georgia fans. It has to feel even better when you see that Lassiter is from Tuscaloosa and had been recruited by his hometown Alabama Crimson Tide. The corner shows a good bit of speed and is able to close down on any receiver. Lassiter played a lot of wide receiver in high school, as well. Because of this, it is easy to see his ability to catch the ball once he gets a hand on it. He is also quite shifty once he gets the ball in his possession.

6. Cam’Ron Valdez, RB, Texas Tech

Valdez is quite the player. He is the 349th overall player and the 18th ranked running back. The product from Rockdale, Texas has the skillset to be a real contributor for the Red Raiders. At just five-foot-ten, Valdez has the advantage of a low center of gravity. The running back has a lot of speed and a lot of agility. Valdez is incredibly hard for the defense to bring down. His ability to move side to side as well as his speed when going forward is something to really behold. Valdez could be a true threat in the Big 12.

5. Blake Miller, OT, Clemson

The first four-star to appear on this week’s list is the class of 2022 recruit, Miller. At six-foot-six and 315 pounds, the Ohio native is a large man. He has the ability to cover a lot of gaps and help keep his backfield clean. Miller’s most impressive skill, however, is his lateral quickness. He is able to slide in whichever direction is needed to pick up the defender. Even with all of the weapons that Clemson brings in every single year, expect to see Miller become a starter at some point in his college career.

4. Jeremiah Williams, DE, Florida

The six-foot-three, 224-pound defensive end out of Alabama is the fifth-ranked defensive end and 97th overall player in 2021. Williams has most definitely earned that ranking, too. He has the speed to get to the edge or drop back in coverage. Williams also has the ability to make some big hits on his opposing offensive players. His football IQ is off the charts. It gives him the ability to make some really fantastic plays and put his opponent in bad situations.

3. Talyn Shelton, WR, Oklahoma

Heading back to next year’s class of recruits, the eighth-ranked wide receiver and the 54th overall player in the nation decided to stay home in Oklahoma and join the Sooners. Shelton is quick, which gives him the ability to take the top off of the defense. He is also six-foot-three-inches giving him a good size to be able to make some plays against a smaller defender. Shelton has really good hands, too. He seems to bring in everything that comes anywhere within his area.

2. Sam McCall, ATH, Florida

The first of two five-star athletes to commit this week was 2022’s fourth-ranked athlete and 30th overall player. McCall has played both wide receiver and safety in high school. He presents an issue for the opposition no matter which side of the ball he is playing on. On both sides of the ball, his speed is a legitimate threat. On defense, McCall has a really strong ability to tackle. On offense, he has some incredible hands and the ability to catch any pass thrown to him. Overall, McCall is a huge get for the Gators and is going to be a threat for his whole career in Gainesville.

1. Ga’Quincy McKinstry, CB, Alabama

The first of this week’s college football recruits is the top cornerback in this year’s class, McKinstry also sits as the 24th overall player in 2021. Just like many of the other top wide receivers and corners, McKinstry played on both sides of the ball. Further, he was dominant on both sides. He is very fast. The corner has a good vertical and is able to high point the ball. He is able to fight through whoever he is guarding to get to the ball. Alabama always has some great players come through their program, but McKinstry is going to cause some problems in the SEC.
