Week Three Midweek Musings

Week Three Midweek Musings

We’re halfway through another week of the strangest year ever, so it’s time for Week Three Midweek Musings.

Florida State

Our best wishes go out to head coach Mike Norvell, who has tested positive for the coronavirus. Norvell told ESPN that he doesn’t know how he contracted the virus, and that he’s asymptomatic. Isolated away from the team, he’ll miss Saturday’s game at Miami.

Miami

Speaking of the ‘Canes, they looked good against a strong Louisville team. Houston transfer D’Eriq King has an impressive command of that offensive, especially considering the bizarre off-season everyone endured. Are they ready to take over from Clemson as the team in the ACC? Not yet. But with no divisions in the ACC this year, and #1 vs. #2 playing in the conference title game, I’d expect to see Clemson facing either the Hurricanes or Notre Dame.

Louisiana-Lafayette

For the first time in 77 years, ULL is ranked in the Top 25, coming in at #19 this week. Obviously, the current rankings are skewed by the Pac-12, Big Ten, and SEC not being in play (no pun intended), but it’s still a neat accomplishment for the team and the Sun Belt Conference.

Also, Ragin’ Cajuns has to be one of the best team names in all of sports.

Navy

The Midshipmen got off to a rough start this season. They had a week off to regroup after being walloped 55-3 by BYU, and looked to pick up where they left off, letting Tulane jump out to a 24-0 lead. It was more than halfway through the third quarter before Navy put up any points, but once they did, there was no stopping them. The Middies scored 27 unanswered, including a walk-off field goal, for a 27-24 victory.

Next up for Navy is a trip to Colorado Springs to face Air Force in the Falcons’ sole home game this season. (While the Mountain West has cancelled the season, Air Force will play Navy at home and travel to play Army).

UTSA-Stephen F. Austin

I only have one question from this game: if Stephen F. Austin’s team is the Lumberjacks, why don’t they have plaid jerseys?

SEC

The Southeastern Conference kicks off with a ranked matchup between #8 Auburn and #23 Kentucky at noon. #5 Florida travels to Oxford to face Ole Miss, #6 LSU faces off with Mississippi State at Tiger Stadium, #4 Georgia visits Arkansas, and Vanderbilt heads to Kyle Field to play #10 Texas A&M. #2 Alabama and #16 Tennessee both travel to Columbia- Alabama to Columbia, Missouri and Tennessee to Columbia, South Carolina.

Want more on the SEC games? We’ve got you covered!

Week Four Schedule Updates (All COVID-related unless otherwise noted)

#7 Notre Dame-Wake Forest: Postponed, per ESPN, to Dec. 12

Houston-North Texas: Postponed. This is the Cougars’ third postponed game. They haven’t played yet!

South Florida-FAU: USF is pausing football and postponing this week’s game after playing Notre Dame last weekend; the Irish had seven players test positive this week.

Those are my Week Three Midweek Musings. Enjoy Week Four, and congrats SEC fans- you made it!
