UTSA Signs Allen Horace
UTSA had a good hit Wednesday when the Roadrunners signed three-star tight end Allen Horace. He is a product of Crockett High School, in Crockett, TX. This signing paid off huge for the Roadrunners as they add an explosive tight end with great catching ability. He had his first official visit with UTSA back on January 24th. He developed a very strong relationship with new head coach Jeff Traylor during that time. This undoubtedly played an enormous role in the overall recruiting process and his eventual signing. Horace is ranked 670th overall in the nation. He is the 27th ranked tight end in the nation, per the 247Sports Composite.
High School Hero
In his junior season, Horace hauled in 29 catches for 468 yards and nine receiving touchdowns. In his senior season, he increased his passes caught to 35 as well as his receiving yards as he went for 552 yards. Although his receiving touchdowns did decrease to just seven, his overall role in the team’s offense surely increased.
His Role At UTSA
The 6-4, 255-pound senior has the ability to go up and catch jump balls for the team all season. Horace also has a decorated basketball background, so this will likely play into his ability to catch passes inside the red zone. This new added weapon will be a huge asset for quarterback Frank Harris. UTSA relied primarily on their rushing ability with Sincere McCormick last season because of their ineffectiveness at passing the ball. Hopefully, the signing of Horace will open up the playbook and expand the UTSA offense. One thing Horace will have to work on is his run blocking. In high school, he was primarily utilized as a big receiver. However, his large build should seamlessly transition to the tight end position as he has the frame to get the job done.
UTSA Recruiting History
UTSA’s overall recruiting history is not overly impressive. UTSA has the 99th ranked recruiting class in the nation, which is three spots worse than last season’s mark. They have the 11th best-recruiting class in Conference USA which is one spot worse than the previous season. Lastly, UTSA’s overall recruit rating this season is at a 0.8255 which has improved from their previous season which was 0.8106. UTSA’s signing of Allen Horace officially made him the highest-ranked recruit in the program’s short football history. Horace was a high-end three-star recruit with a ranking of 0.8673.
