The Oklahoma Sooners were in desperate need of good news. The blowout loss to LSU and the recent decommitment of five-star 2021 quarterback Brock Vandagriff has been tough. However, Oklahoma received it in the form of a commitment from Chandler Morris. He’s a 5-11, 178-pound quarterback out of Highland Park in Dallas, Texas. Morris is a four-star recruit, per the 247Sports composite. He has offers from Arkansas, Auburn, and USC among others.
Chandler Morris is the #14th ranked dual-threat quarterback in the country. He is in the mold of Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray in the fact that he is a little undersized for the position at 5-11. However, much like the aforementioned Heisman winners, Morris is a fiery competitor with a quick release and is very accurate with the football.
If the name sounds familiar, it should. Morris is the son of former Arkansas head coach Chad Morris and current Auburn offensive coordinator. Oklahoma was able to beat out both Arkansas and Auburn for his services. Partly because he wants to make his own name for himself. Morris will come in and have the opportunity to battle for the job immediately. Most have anointed Spencer Rattler as the starter along with Tanner Mordecai as the backup. This commitment is huge for Oklahoma as many believe that Mordecai could be a transfer candidate if he doesn’t win the job.
