Ralph Webb 2018 NFL Draft Profile

Ralph Webb has consistently been one of the SEC’s top producing running backs. How does a player who is ranked number six in the SEC for career rushing yards not get a Combine invite? How does Kahlil McKenzie from Tennessee get an invite when he only has TWO SEASONS of stats and a total of 36 tackles? Oh, wait his dad works for the Oakland Raiders. Now it all makes sense. Webb only rushed for 4,173 yards. He was a mere 145 yards away from knocking Bo Jackson out of the top five. Why would he deserve a spot at the Combine?

This Combine snub was a bit shocking but not a total surprise. It was just one of the many times Webb has been overlooked in his career. That snub will only add fuel to his fire. One can only assume the lack of attention for Webb throughout his career is due to the logo on his jersey.

Webb is entering the draft after his redshirt senior season He quietly ran his way into the record books. As mentioned above Webb finished his college career ranked the number six all-time leading rusher in the SEC with 4,173 yards. Webb leaves Vanderbilt with his name etched firmly in the top spot of their record books. He holds the single-season record with 1,283 rushing yards, rushing yards by a junior with 1,283 yards, rushing yards by a sophomore with 1,152 yards, and rushing yards by a freshman with 907 yards. As well as 931 carries, 32 rushing touchdowns, 35 total touchdowns and 16 games with least 100 rushing yards. Not to mention an impressive 49 consecutive starts.

Bottom Line

Webb is small in stature but uses his size to his advantage. He slips through defenders with ease. His powerful legs make him explosive off the line of scrimmage behind the right offensive line he would be virtually unstoppable. Webb has extensive game intelligence which will help him adapt to the NFL thus making his playing potential limitless. Webb is the real deal but is nevertheless likely to go un-drafted. He will be a steal and a star for any team willing to take a chance on him.

Webb is a strong and athletic player. He’s explosive and aggressive and is not afraid to run through a defender. He is not as big as teams would like him to be but he has the potential to make an immediate impact. His head coach Derek Mason had high praise for him last season as he battled through a grueling SEC schedule. “Ralph Webb is as good as it gets. I’ll take that dude with me anytime, any place, anywhere. He comes to practice. You know he’s hurt. He gets through it, he works through it… We work hard for one another, but that dude is just consistent. Nobody knew his name when he walked in here, everybody’s going to know his name when he leaves.”
