Last Word on College Football Heisman Rankings (Week Eight)

2022 Week Three Heisman Rankings

Last Word on College Football Heisman Rankings

This time of the year a Heisman moment is likely to make or break the race. Over the last couple of weeks, Baker Mayfield has solidified himself as the clear favorite with great games against Oklahoma State and TCU. Last week, Jonathan Taylor and Bryce Love produced big numbers in key wins for Wisconsin and Stanford. How will those performances affect our 2017 Heisman rankings?

Comparatively, Saquon Barkley continues to struggle and has dropped on our list. His 35 yards against a bad Rutgers team was not the kind of game that he needed. Also, along with the rest of the Fighting Irish, Josh Adams struggled on the road against Miami. Kerryon Johnson and Khalil Tate are making late charges with great all-around games.

Top Five Candidates

1. Baker Mayfield

QB | Oklahoma                      Next Game: 11/18 at Kansas

Mayfield has taken full advantage of his time on the national stage over the last couple of weeks. He threw for over 300 yards and three touchdowns in the first half against the sixth-ranked defense in the country. Mayfield should have another field day as the Sooners take on the lowly Jayhawks this weekend.

2. Bryce Love

RB | Stanford                      Next Game: 11/18 vs California

What a gritty performance from Love on Friday night against Washington. Love took over the game in the second half of a game that knocked Washington out of playoff contention. He is a clear number two at this point and has a favorable match-up against rival California.

3. Saquon Barkley

RB | Penn State                       Next Game: 11/18 vs Nebraska

The struggle is most certainly real for Barkley. For the third consecutive week, he did not perform well for Penn State. For the first time this year, he did not appear on everyone’s top five.

4. Jonathan Taylor

RB | Wisconsin               Next Game: 11/18 Vs Michigan

Taylor had been flirting with the top five for a few weeks and finally gets there this week. Wisconsin is the Rodney Dangerfield of College Football this year, but Taylor is finally getting the recognition that he deserves. The game of the week is in Madison this week as the Badgers host Michigan.

5. Kerryon Johnson

RB | Auburn               Next Game: 11/18 vs Louisiana Monroe

Nobody had a more impressive performance as a team than Auburn did with their dismantling of the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. At the forefront of that performance was Kerryon Johnson. He looks to improve that ranking as the Tigers host Lousiana Monroe this weekend.
