2022 Week Three Heisman Rankings

Last Word on College Football Heisman Rankings

It’s championship November. Although that phrase is normally used for conference and playoff rankings it also makes sense for our Heisman rankings. Last week was a tough week for our top five with the exception of one. Baker Mayfield solidified himself now as the frontrunner by a hefty margin with his play against Oklahoma State on Saturday.

Our top two running backs struggled last week in losses on the road. Both Saquon Barkley and Bryce Love were held under 100 yards in defeat. Josh Adams was forced out early against Wake Forest as he was in the concussion protocol. However, Jonathan Taylor and Rashaad Penny got themselves back into the conversation with fantastic games.

Top Five Candidates

1. Baker Mayfield

QB | Oklahoma                      Next Game: 11/11 vs TCU

It was Bedlam alright. In a game filled with great players, Mayfield was clearly the best player on the field. Although he threw two interceptions that hardly mattered as he nearly threw for 600 yards in the Sooner victory. He’s now the clear number one with a sizeable lead heading into another high profile matchup this week.

2. Saquon Barkley

RB | Penn State                       Next Game: 11/11 vs Rutgers

It’s been a devastating two weeks for Penn State and Barkley. For the second straight week, Barkley struggled to get going. It will be an uphill climb for Barkley the remainder of the season for Heisman consideration with no top 25 games remaining and a longshot for a conference title.

3. Bryce Love

RB | Stanford                      Next Game: 11/10 vs Washington

Still nursing an ankle injury and a tough Washington State defense, Love had his lowest output of the season. After a promising 52-yard touchdown run early on, he only had 17 yards on 15 other carries. Love and the Cardinal face another tough defense Friday night against the Washington Huskies.

4. Josh Adams

RB | Notre Dame               Next Game: 11/11 At Miami

It’s not like Adams had a bad game, he just didn’t get many opportunities. That should not be the case this week as Notre Dame faces Miami in the marquee matchup of the weekend. A win would do wonders not only for Irish playoff hopes but also for Adam’s Heisman candidacy.

5. Rashaad Penny

RB | San Diego State               Next Game: 11/18 vs Nevada

Rashaad Penny is perhaps the hottest running back in all of college football over the last two weeks. He has now overtaken Love as the nations leading rusher and is also the all-purpose yardage leader. Penny is off this week before facing Nevada in two weeks.
