Tre’Davious White 2017 NFL Draft Profile

Tre’Davious White has been a fixture at LSU over the past four seasons through changes both at head coach and defensive coordinator. The senior cornerback just finished an impressive career with the Bayou Bengals where he notched 167 tackles and six interceptions in four years as a starter. Despite the fact that LSU is known for their defensive backs, White had no trouble finding his way onto the field upon his arrival in Baton Rouge earning a starting job in his true freshman season.

White has the size, speed and starting experience against top competition to be a hot prospect to NFL teams. He has been a consistent corner for LSU who has been trusted against top receivers. Although he recorded a relatively high number of tackles in his career, this is one area where he has not been consistent.

White works best with space. He can struggle in press man by turning his hips too quickly, but once the receiver is in the route he is patient and plays off the receiver well. This allows him to stay on top of routes and make plays on the ball. Spending a lot of time in man coverage limits a player’s opportunities to get interceptions so it shouldn’t be seen as too much of a negative that in four years as a starting White only has four picks. White has good ball skills and reads the quarterback well. He may actually be better in zone than man, as it allows him more opportunities to make a play on the ball.

Projection: late first to early second round

Bottom Line:

Tre’Davious White is a very consistent four-year starter at a top football program that is known for producing defensive backs. He has the skill set to be a high level NFL corner, but will need to improve his tackling. This year, the NFL Draft is very deep at the cornerback position. There are other corners in the draft who stand out a bit more on film. The Combine and his personal workouts will have a huge impact on whether White is drafted in the mid first round or later in the draft.
