Texas A&M Recruiting Class of 2017

After another tough season for the Texas A&M Aggies on the field, it’s good to see that when it comes to national signing day they can still produce a strong recruiting class. Rivals ranked their class as the #10 in the nation which was perhaps bolstered by having 27 commitments signed this year. Out of these 27 they already had nine enrolled on campus before national signing day.

The class was headlined by Kellen Mond and Anthony Hines who are both blue chip recruits that fill huge needs for the Aggies. With Trevor Knight just a one year stop gap after transferring from Oklahoma, Jake Hubenak proving to only be a solid backup and Nick Starkel unproven so far it was important to get a top quarterback. Kellen Mond was rated as a five star by some sites and was the third ranked dual threat quarterback. Unfortunately the comparisons to Johnny Manziel are already being made but as Trevor Knight proved this year this team doesn’t need a top quarterback to carry the whole team like Manziel did in 2013.

Anthony Hines is a four star linebacker from Plano, Texas. The Aggies depth chart at linebacker has been thin for a number of years so adding a top prospect certainly helps. He was one of the most offered prospects of the 2017 class with nearly 90 reported scholarship offers. He had numerous cut downs of the schools still in the running before picking Texas A&M. He cited his strong relationship with defensive co-ordinator John Chavis as one of the main reasons for choosing to go to College Station.
