That moment set the tone for the rest of the first set. Alcaraz faced little resistance as he broke Ruud’s serve three times on his way to a dominant 6-1 set win.

The second set proved far closer, as Ruud raised his level and Alcaraz made a few uncharacteristic mistakes. Even so, Alcaraz never looked in real danger of losing control of the match, as he continued to have worry-free service games and did not face a single break point throughout the match.

Once the players reached the tiebreak, the World No.1 raised his level again, securing a relatively comfortable breaker filled with spectacular rallies to close out the match. All in all, it was yet another dominant display by Alcaraz, one which earned him a 9.5 performance rating from Tennis Insights.

Alcaraz Makes Indian Wells History

The victory means Alcaraz is now 15-0 this season and has won 70 of his last 75 matches on tour, a remarkable streak that ranks among the most impressive in tennis history, during which he has secured three Major titles.

With the win, Alcaraz also became the first men’s player in Indian Wells history to reach at least five quarterfinals before turning 23 years old, further emphasizing his dominance at the tournament he has already won twice.

Alcaraz will return to action tomorrow when he faces Cameron Norrie. The Brit has enjoyed some success against him in the past, but he will still enter the match as a heavy underdog against a player who currently looks a level above the rest of the tour.

Main Photo Credit: Mike Frey – Imagn Images

Carlos Alcaraz improved to 15-0 for the year after convincingly defeating Casper Ruud 6-1 7-6 in the Indian Wells fourth round.
