As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the slate, including Carlos Alcaraz vs Grigor Dimitrov and Taylor Fritz vs Jacob Fearnley. But who will advance to the third round?

ATP Indian Wells Day 4 Predictions

Alex de Minaur vs Sebastian Korda

Head-to-head: de Minaur 3-1 Korda

Sebastian Korda extended his win streak to six matches with a 7-5 6-0 win over Francisco Comesana. The 25-year-old is now 14-5 for the season with a title in his trophy cabinet. But he’s only advanced to the third round in Indian Wells once in four previous visits. And the test doesn’t get any easier in addressing that poor record with sixth seed Alex de Minaur lurking. The Australian surprisingly lost his opening match in Acapulco against Patrick Kypson in one of those rare occasional slip-ups. This will be de Minaur’s territory with slower desert conditions favoring his counterpunching tennis. But Korda is unburdened by expectations and if he keeps the forehand flowing and serves well, he’ll likely control enough rallies.

Prediction: Korda in 3

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBZVnxQHJN" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3508px; aspect-ratio: 3508/2480;" ></smartframe-embed>

Arthur Rinderknech vs Juan Manuel Cerundolo

Head-to-head: Rinderknech 1-0 Cerundolo

Arthur Rinderknech is coming off his best result of the season. He was a quarterfinalist in Dubai, where he tallied wins over Fabian Marozsan and Jack Draper. Before that, he was very close to taking a set from Carlos Alcaraz in Doha. After an uneven start to the season, the Frenchman has turned the tide in recent matches with some commendable performances.

Juan Manuel Cerundolo, meanwhile, knocked out Botic van de Zandschulp in one of the most shocking results of the first round. That was the Argentine’s first main draw win at the Tour level on a hard court since the 2023 US Open. On this court, the ball sits up just enough to give Cerundolo time to work on patterns and that is where he can be dangerous. But Rindekrnech offers the opposite equation with more aggression in his game and I think he will deny Cerundolo that space.

Prediction: Rinderknech in 3

Corentin Moutet vs Aleksandar Kovacevic

Head-to-head: first meeting

Aleksandar Kovacevic had never won a main draw match in Indian Wells until this week. The American upset Hubert Hurkacz in two tiebreak sets in the first round, saving a set point in the first set. Kovacevic will now look to secure back-to-back wins for the first time since the opening week of the season in Brisbane. But that will be easier said than done as he faces the flamboyant Corentin Moutet. The Frenchman remains winless since the Australian Open, having lost his last three matches against Carlos Alcaraz, Tommy Paul, and Alexander Zverev. That’s a formidable trio to play against, and if Moutet’s confidence is intact, his creativity can turn this into a chaotic match for Kovacevic.

Prediction: Moutet in 3

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="b0c95bc04383cef69c6b47df872135cf" image-id="WmOBFbdoA3JG" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5184px; aspect-ratio: 5184/3456;" ></smartframe-embed>

Jack Draper vs Roberto Bautista Agut

Head-to-head: first meeting

Since his comeback last month, Jack Draper has been searching for rhythm. He’s played just three matches, winning twice and losing his most recent match against Arthur Rinderknech in Dubai. The damage of a potential early exit at the desert will massively affect his ranking. Roberto Bautista Agut is not the player he once was, but his work rate is still exemplary and the Spaniard scored a terrific three-set win over Fabian Marozsan in the first round. That said, Draper’s ceiling should carry him through this match.

Prediction: Draper in 2

Main photo credit: Taya Gray/The Desert Sun / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

There should be plenty of entertaining tennis on day four at ATP Indian Wells with the defending champion amongst those in action.
