The Chinese has looked very sharp all week, with the highlight so\u00a0far\u00a0her straight-sets win over second seed Emma Navarro in the second round\u00a0\u2013 a victory that will surely have given her real confidence heading into the weekend. As will the fact that she has beaten Magdalena Frech in two of\u00a0their\u00a0three\u00a0previous\u00a0meetings, including their most recent.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">But Frech should not be underestimated. The Pole has beaten two seeds \u2013 Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and Marie Bouzkova \u2013 en route to the last four and has\u00a0generally been\u00a0playing better tennis than\u00a0the veteran\u00a0Zhang, which is reflected by her higher ranking.\u00a0But when the 37-year-old Zhang is at her best \u2013 as she has been so\u00a0far\u00a0this week \u2013 she is\u00a0a very difficult\u00a0opponent to face. She could use some momentum heading into the Sunshine Double and has set about building some in Merida with\u00a0wins over Patricia Hon (for the loss of only two games) and Katie Boulter. She did lose the first set to Boulter to\u00a0love\u00a0which will be a slight cause\u00a0for \u00a0concern,\u00a0but \u00a0the\u00a0more\u00a0important point\u00a0is that Paolini rallied to win in three.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Cristina Bucsa, who is also still in contention in the doubles draw this week, has won all three matches she has played in the singles draw in straight sets and has clearly enjoyed the conditions in Merida.\u00a0That said, the Spaniard has not yet come up against an opponent with Paolini\u2019s quality.
