Iga Swiatek\u2019s 2026 season got off to an up-and-down start, as she helped Team Poland win the United Cup<\/a>. She won her first three matches but then lost her final two, falling to Coco Gauff and Belinda Bencic in rather one-sided fashion.<\/p>\n

That tournament served as the world No.2\u2019s warm-up for the Australian Open, where she and Team Poland finally got over the hump after coming up short in previous years. On a personal level, however, it marked the first time Swiatek suffered two defeats at the event.<\/p>\n

Focus on development over results<\/h3>\n

Now, ahead of the first Major of the year, the six-time Major champion has admitted that her priority is improvement rather than immediate results. Speaking to a Polish news outlet, Swiatek explained<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cFor now I\u2019m not setting results goals. I am focusing on developing technically and in terms of my tennis game itself.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This came after her loss in the United Cup final rubber, after which she also told the press regarding her fitness that: \u201cEverything is fine, just super sore. I guess, first tournament of the year, it costs everybody a bit differently than during the season.\u201d<\/p>\n

A mindset shaped by her new era<\/h3>\n

One could argue that Swiatek has always carried this mindset throughout her career, consistently prioritising improvement over outcomes. However, that approach appears to have been amplified since new coach Wim Fissette joined her team late in 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This will be their second season start together, with 2025 having been their first full year as a partnership<\/a>. Despite a decline in statistical dominance and no titles on her favourite surface, clay, Swiatek still captured three trophies, including her maiden Wimbledon title.<\/p>\n

As the Australian Open gets underway, all eyes will once again be on the former world No.1. Not only is she chasing what would be a historic Career Grand Slam, but there is also intrigue around her overall form as she looks to reclaim the top ranking this year after a lengthy absence.<\/p>\n
