Tennis will lose one of its most legendary active players next year. Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka<\/a> has revealed that 2026 will be his final year as a professional. The 40-year-old’s career has been one of the longest in tennis history, winning him fans all over the world.<\/p>\n

Stan Wawrinka Announces Retirement For 2026<\/h2>\n

Wawrinka made his decision public\u00a0in an Instagram post<\/a>. The Swiss player wrote that it was time to write the final chapter of his career, and listed 12 words that will define his last year as a professional, the first letters of which created the words passion and dream.<\/p>\n

“One last push. Every books needs an ending. It\u2019s time to write the final chapter of my career as a professional tennis player. 2026 will be my last year on Tour.”<\/p>\n

“This is what the dream has been about. I still want to push my limits and finish this journey on the best note possible. I still have dreams in this sport. I\u2019ve enjoyed every part of what tennis has given me, especially the emotions I feel playing in front of you. I\u2019m looking forward to seeing you one more time, all around the world. One last push.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Wawrinka has not revealed where his final tournament will be. The 2025 Swiss Indoors in Basel, which is scheduled for October 24th to November 1st, might seem like a natural place to finish if he intends to play a full season before hanging up his racket.<\/p>\n

Alternatively, Wawrinka might choose to complete his career at one of the Grand Slams he won. The former world No. 3 will definitely not finish at the Australian Open in January, but the French Open or the US Open are possible options. Hopefully, he gets the send-off his outstanding career deserves.<\/p>\n
