The seven-time champion had not confirmed whether he would play, similar to last year when he chose to skip the event despite qualifying.

However, a new statement from the president of the Italian Tennis Federation has finally ended the speculation.

Binaghi Confirms Djokovic’s Turin Participation

Speaking to La Politica nel Pallone on GR Parlamento, Angelo Binaghi, president of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, confirmed that the 24-time major champion will indeed compete at the ATP Finals next week.

“We have confirmation that Djokovic will play,” Binaghi said.

While this is not an official statement from Djokovic himself, Binaghi’s confirmation as head of the host federation strongly indicates that the Serbian great will make his 17th appearance at the prestigious season-ending event.

Djokovic’s Record-Breaking Return

Djokovic already holds nearly every record at the ATP Finals, including the most titles and most qualifications. His participation in the 2025 edition will tie him with Roger Federer for the most appearances in tournament history.

Although some expected him to skip Turin this year, Djokovic has repeatedly stated that retirement is not on his mind. The world No.1 believes his best chance to challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner comes in best-of-three matches and not the Slams. Notably, he defeated both players back-to-back to win the 2023 edition.

Impact on the Race for Turin

Djokovic’s confirmed participation also affects the final qualification spot. Italian hopeful Lorenzo Musetti must now win the ATP 250 in Athens to secure his place in Turin. Many believed he could qualify automatically if Djokovic had opted out, but with the Serbian competing, Musetti’s task has become significantly tougher.

Interestingly, Djokovic himself is also playing in Athens this week, meaning their fates could intertwine before the season’s biggest showdown begins.

Main Photo Credit: Geoff Burke-Imagn Images

Currently in Greece to compete at the ATP 250 Athens, Novak Djokovic’s participation in the Nitto ATP Finals had remained uncertain despite his qualification earlier this season.
