Coco Gauff

WTA Rank: 3
WTA Race: 3

Coco Gauff has had a strong year overall. She’s consistently been ranked #3, behind Sabalenka and Swiatek, but winning the Wuhan Open now puts her at the top. She still struggles with her serve, but the pressure she brings to every rally makes her nearly impossible to beat. Until someone dethrones her, she’ll stay at the top of this list.

2. Amanda Anisimova

WTA Rank: 4
WTA Race: 4

Amanda Anisimova proved during this Asian swing that her recent form wasn’t an anomaly but a new reality. She played fantastic tennis in Beijing, defeating everyone in her path to claim the trophy. She chose not to play in Wuhan, understandably taking some time to rest, but her trophy run in Beijing propels her to number 2 for now. If she keeps this up, she has a strong chance to climb to the top of this list.

Embed from Getty Images

3. Aryna Sabalenka

WTA Rank: 1
WTA Race: 1

Aryna Sabalenka won the US Open but wasn’t able to maintain that level in Asia. She only played in Wuhan, where she’s had a tremendous track record in the past, but this time she was stopped by Jessica Pegula in the semi-finals. Still, what she’s done this year is strong enough to keep her at #3 on this list.

4. Iga Swiatek

WTA Rank: 2
WTA Race: 2

Swiatek started the Asian swing on a high note by winning the event in Korea, but the Chinese events didn’t go as well for the Polish player. She’s currently experiencing a bit of a dip in her level, which is why she’s at #4 on this list. However, we all know how quickly she can turn things around, even if it doesn’t seem likely in the short term.

5. Jessica Pegula

WTA Rank: 5
WTA Race: 5

Pegula has been traditionally strong in Asia. She didn’t win an event, but she made the final in Wuhan and generally played solid tennis. That should give her fans a lot of confidence that she can finish the season strong and possibly challenge for a title or two. For now, she’s #5 on this list.

Embed from Getty Images

6. Jasmine Paolini

WTA Rank: 8
WTA Race: 8

Jasmine Paolini played solid tennis in China, which is why she’s moved up on this list. The Italian is a steadfast player who rarely delivers a poor performance. Indoors is where she can really do damage, which is why she’s #6 for now.

7. Linda Noskova

WTA Rank: 17
WTA Race: 15

Linda Noskova finds herself on this list purely because of her remarkable performance in Beijing. The Czech player has shown great promise early in her career, but it’s her ability to compete closely against some of the best players that stands out. If she can replicate even a fraction of the form she showed in Beijing, she’ll be among the best in the final stretch of the season, which is more than enough to place her here.

8. Elena Rybakina

WTA Rank: 9
WTA Race: 19

Elena Rybakina remains one of the better players on Tour, but her struggle with consistency defines her recent form. She showed a solid level in China, but not one that makes you think she’ll do something extraordinary in the final weeks of the season. As such, #8 seems appropriate for her right now.

9. Ekaterina Alexandrova

WTA Rank: 10
WTA Race: 10

Alexandrova is a tricky player who employs an aggressive style, which on any given day can cause problems for most opponents. Indoors is where she’s thrived throughout her career, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on her in the upcoming weeks. Her level in Asia looked solid, and if she continues that form, expect Alexandrova to make a strong push for the WTA Finals.

10. Mirra Andreeva

WTA Rank: 6
WTA Race: 7
Mirra Andreeva is one of the brightest stars in tennis, but her recent form has been shaky. She looked out of sorts during the Asian swing and made some concerning comments, essentially saying she was “over tennis.” It was a moment of weakness, and while she isn’t taking a break, her form has dipped. As a result, she’s ranked lower on this list for now.

Embed from Getty Images

Main Photo Credit: Robert Deutsch-Imagn Images

Coco Gauff has been missing a big win recently, but she got it at the Wuhan Open, which is why she’s emerged at the top of the WTA Power Rankings heading into the final weeks of the season—where she played fantastic tennis last year, winning the WTA Finals.
