Paolini has beaten Gauff three times in 2025, and the rivalry currently sits at 3-2 in favor of Paolini. Paolini is 9-1 in her last ten matches, and Gauff is 8-2 in that same span. Gauff is 28-9 on a hardcourt in 2025, but she’s struggled to finish out tournaments this year. She also hadn’t made it out of a single hardcourt quarterfinal this year before she made the semifinal in Beijing. She went on to win a total of three games in the ensuing semifinal against Anisimova. This is Paolini’s second hardcourt semifinal, though she does have another final appearance. Oddly enough, that appearance was against Gauff, and it came in Rome back in May.

Best Bet to Make

While the books favor Gauff, she has had troubles with hardcourt tournaments in 2025. When you add her struggles with the fact that Paolini already has three wins against her this year, one of them came in the final, and you’re looking at a different mental makeup for Gauff heading into this match. Gone is the confidence she usually plays with, knowing Paolini can and has beaten her on a hardcourt this year. Whether Gauff is just rattled this year and unable to finish out because of that or Paolini just has her number, I feel like Paolini is likely to prevail here. At least one of these matches will produce an upset, and when you see our next match, you’ll understand why I picked this match, among other reasons.

That being said, Paolini is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/the best odds: Paolini @2.2 @Betfair

Sabalenka – Pegula: Time 12:30

H2H: 8-2

Aryna Sabalenka vs Jessica Pegula has not been competitive throughout the years. Whether it’s a stylistic thing or Sabalenka just has Pegula figured out, their match history has been very much one-sided. Sabalenka is already a problem child for half of the world, but she’s the bane of Pegula’s existence. In ten total matches, Pegula has beaten Sabalenka twice. One incident occurred during their very first meeting, back in 2020. The other happened at the 2023 WTA Masters Cup. That’s it. Oh, and only two of their matches have gone three sets. One was the aforementioned first-ever match, and the second was at the WTA US Open just back in September. Sabalenka is 10-0 in her last ten matches, and Pegula is 8-2 in hers. Sabalenka also has four tournament titles this year, including the aforementioned US Open in September.

Best Bet to Make

The books have Sabalenka as the overwhelming favorite. Sabalenka is nearly a 3.5-point favorite, so you’re not gonna make anything betting her straight up. If you’re gonna make any money, you’re either taking a flier on Pegula in the upset or you’re betting on Sabalenka with props. I like Sabalenka 2:0 because of the aforementioned history with two-set games. Two whole games have gone three sets out of ten matches. That’s a pretty safe bet, if you ask me. You can also cash out on the over/under for 20.5 games played. The over is 1.88 and the under is 1.97, so there’s value either way. I still prefer the correct score bet because of the established history.

That being said, Sabalenka winning 2:0 is a value bet for sure.

Value bet/the best odds: Sabalenka winning 2:0 @1.83 @Bet365

Main Photo Credit: Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

It’s time for the semifinals at WTA Wuhan.
