As the Round of 16 unfolds, a mix of big servers, counterpunchers, and rising stars will look to extend their runs in what has been a lively hard-court event. With form and momentum at a premium, these next few matchups promise to offer plenty of intrigue. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the schedule. But who will advance?

ATP Shanghai Day 7 Predictions

Gabriel Diallo vs Zizou Bergs

Head-to-Head: Diallo 2–0 Bergs

Diallo and Bergs meet after strong showings in the earlier rounds, both riding the confidence of upset wins. Bergs has thrived in the underdog role, beating Sebastian Korda, edging Casper Ruud after the Norwegian retired, and then outlasting Francesco Cerundolo. Diallo has leaned on his booming serve and composure to move through comfortably and holds the upper hand in this matchup, having won all their previous meetings in straight sets. With both in form, this could come down to who manages the key service games better under pressure.

Prediction: Diallo in 2

Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard vs Holger Rune

Head-to-Head: Mpetshi Perricard 1–1 Rune

Mpetshi Perricard was not to be denied against Taylor Fritz in the previous round, delivering one of his most complete performances of the season. His serve was untouchable, as he didn’t face a single break point throughout the encounter. Rune has cruised through his matches so far, looking sharp from the baseline and confident in extended rallies. With both players striking the ball cleanly, this could turn into a battle of small margins, where one loose service game might decide the outcome.

Prediction: Mpetshi Perricard in 3

Embed from Getty Images

Valentin Vacherot vs Tallon Griekspoor

Head-to-Head: first meeting

Vacherot’s sharp baseline play has been one of the pleasant surprises of the tournament, but Griekspoor represents a step up in quality. The Dutchman was hanging tough against top seed Jannik Sinner in the previous round, barely giving anything away on his serve and pushing the match to a third set before the Italian was forced to retire due to cramping. Vacherot will need to stay aggressive and take his chances early, as long rallies could tilt in Griekspoor’s favor. Their first meeting could come down to who handles the big points better under pressure.

Prediction: Griekspoor in 2

Novak Djokovic vs Jaume Munar

Head-to-Head: Djokovic 1–0 Munar

Djokovic was pushed to three sets in the previous round by Yannick Hanfmann, with the German serving impeccably until the tail end of the second set when he finally buckled under pressure. The Serbian found his rhythm late and closed it out with the poise that has defined his career. Munar’s defensive skills could test his patience, but sustaining that level over three sets will be difficult. With Sinner now out of the draw, Djokovic looks like one of the likeliest players to go all the way in Shanghai.

Prediction: Djokovic in 2

Main Photo Credit: Robert Deutsch – Imagn Images

The Rolex Shanghai Masters has delivered a few surprises already, with several unseeded names playing their way into the second week.
